My Stitching Resolution Blog Hop




Today is the big day for My Stitching Resolution Blog Hop, hosted by the fabulous Carla @Creatin in the Sticks.  When Carla first brought up this idea, I had to jump at the chance.  I have so many projects I would like to finish.  This is a one-day hop, and no sewing was required, just come up with your resolution (s).   Thanks so much to Carla for helping us get on track for 2021~

My Stitching Resolutions for 2021 are as follows:  I have too many, I can't just post one!

1)  Finally finish my lighthouse/sailboat quilt for my king sized bed, into flimsy stage at least.   I started this 16 or so years ago, I did the center panel.  Some quilting friends in a birthday swap made the sailboats.  I planned to make Storm at Sea blocks for the next round, but I must have been cutting wonky because they were not right.  I got the Accuquilt Storm at Sea Dies, and need to put them to use.   I have quite a bit to go to make this king sized.  I have never made myself a bed quilt, though everyone else in my immediate family, so I would really like to get this done.


2)  Finish Buhl-Bushong into flimsy Stage.   This was a BOM through the Virginia Quilt Museum.  I got my borders done, and 5 center blocks.  I need to finish the rest of the center blocks and sew them together.  


3)  Jaeger's Graduation Quilt.  I need to finish this up, and quilt it.  This is the Pieces From the Past Sewalong by Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps.    I'm caught up with these right now, and as soon as the last few blocks come out, I will quilt it.  My grandson Jaeger graduates in 2021.  



4)  Make brother Bill a lighthouse quilt for my SIL Char.  He asked me if I would do this last year, and I told him as soon as I finished my bed quilt.  Well neither got worked on.  I am going to make it a priority this year.  I actually have all the elements of a lighthouse BOM I never started, and plan to put that together for them, with a little enlargement to make it king sized.  



5)  Finish watching my Free Motion Academy videos , practice my motifs, turn my final projects and graduate.   This is a class by HollyAnne Knight.  I watched the first few videos, practiced a couple of motifs in the Fall.  Then my grandchildren went back to school, and needed me to transport them after school, then in November my husband's fall, and rehab.  So I missed the majority of the class and missed graduation this time.  I would really like to finish this up, and it is high on my list.  I need a lot more practice on swirls.  








6)    Quilt my Father Christmas Quilt.  This was another long-term project.  Made one guy, top right corner in around 1999.  Finally finished this several months ago.  I would like this done in time for Christmas 2021.



7)  Quilt Frolic Mystery.  This was Bonnie Hunter's Mystery from 2019.   I plan to give this to a former coworker who got married several months ago.  


8)  Quilt Summer Sails.  I finished this quilt that had been on my wish list for a number of years this year.  I would like to quilt it.


9)  Finish up CQ project.  This was a project I started in Judith Baker-Montano's Crazy Quilt class a number of years ago at an Empty Spools Retreat in Asilomar, CA.  I would like to finish this up, and I would like to gift it to a friend.  


10)  QAL by the Sea into flimsy stage.    This was this year's QAL by Partners in Design.

Slow Sunday Stitching

 Hope everyone had Happy Holidays!  We certainly did, although our youngest daughter Katie and her family are visiting her in-laws in Arizona.  Katie is the photographer in our family and is usually the one that runs around takes all our pictures.  I realized today, we neglected to take pictures of our gathering yesterday.  Granddaughter Kyleigh did take a couple pictures on her Polaroid.  

This week I was able to get a few more gifts done.  I usually make my grandchildren new pillowcases each Christmas.    I think this one was a panel,  but I thought John, my grandson would like it.  They have 4 cats.  This is one side.

These are all five.  Keaton gets the one with dogs, Kyleigh the fish,  Jaeger the cars, and Klara the unicorns.  



Granddaughter Kyleigh also requested a Thanksgiving pillow cover for her seasons pillow.  This free Give Thanks stitchery I found at Creative Kismet.  


One of my gifts from my daughter was some Snaplock containers for leftovers.  I have been wanting to get some of these for awhile but didn't want to spend the money.  I unpacked them all today, and even got motivated to clean out the cupboard where they are going to be stored.  


Today I happily got my sewing machine back out, set up on the dining room table, along with my cutting mat and ironing station.  I have a perfectly good sewing room, but it is dark, and crowded.  I'm thinking of it as my storeroom I think now.  The dining room has good light and plenty of space to spread out if I have most of the leaves in the table.  I am trying not to spread out onto the kitchen table this time, just keep it in the dining room!  Wonder how long this will last?

Today I also made a Pieces From the Past block the sewalong hosted by Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps.  This is the Maple Leaf, first published by the Kansas City Start on August 31, 1938.  It will be a graduation quilt for grandson Jaeger who graduates in 2021.  


I set the quitalongs, and BOMS I had been working on aside when my husband was hospitalized in November, and with the Home Health people coming in and out it made it difficult for me to keep up.  Home Health has been discontinued now, so I should have time to start getting my projects caught up in the next few weeks.  

What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching this week is the November stitchery in the One Stitch At A Time Club by Kathy Schmitz.    I have been wanting to embroider some more.

Slow Sunday Stitching

It's been another busy week.  We had a family dinner here for my son-in-law on Wednesday and I spent most of the day preparing a Mexican feast.   My daughter and two grandchildren traveled to Arizona the next day to spend Christmas with his mother and father.  He will be joining them this week to spend time too.  

I haven't had much time for Slow Stitching this week.  After the family dinner I was able to get my sewing stuff back out on the dining room table.  I got this table runner together with the gingerbread people and house.  It is pretty long, and hard to get a good picture of.  I am in the midst of quilting it, and should finish it in the next day or two.  This is for my daughter who is currently in Arizona so there is no hurry, they won't be back till after the 28th.  



I also finished this for my brother.  


What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching will be this Ella Maria Deacon block, which is still half done.

After our family dinner this past week, my daughter wanted us to open her Christmas gifts.  One of my gifts was a set of mermaid sheets.  They are microfiber, which I thought would make me too hot, but they actually are helping my bad knee significantly, keeping it warm, and thus not waking me up all night.   


She also gave me this throw.  It is called chinchilla, but is 100% polyester, and oh so soft and warm.

My other daughter Kristen found this nutcracker at Ross the other day and bought it for me.  I love him!



I had a couple of great packages this week.  I won these Ruby Star Society FQ's from   @sarah_made on Instagram.


                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Also on Instagram, I exchanged some Civil War Fabric with Kathleen @takemetheretotes.  I offered her some of cuts of my Civil War reproductions, and she kindly sent me some of hers.  There was only 1 I had seen before.  


                                                                                                                                                                      My neighbor brought over a card and a gift today, and included in card were some old pictures, probably close to 40 years old, as my youngest daughter is 41, and appears about 18 months old.   Albert my neighbor dressed up as Santa and came to visit.    Also pics of John and my younger selves.  John never smiles for pictures, but he has a smile on his face here.

Hand Quilt Along, Slow Sunday Stitching

Another three weeks has passed, and my weeks have been so busy with my husband's therapists coming in.  We are down to two now, once a week, and I suspect they will be discharging him soon.  He is still confined to the living room, but getting around better.  

This past week, I have finished a few items though on the hand stitching front.



I'm currently working on this Stitcher's Revolution pattern.  Because the tea towel is a gray tone, I could not iron the design on.  So I printed it on the Sulky Stick and Stich sheet.  The only trouble was with the tea towel weight and the sheets I was punching holes in my finger trying to get through both layers.  My daughter wanted these darker towels because she was afraid things would get wiped up that would stain a white towel.  


I finished this one with the gray towels.  I am not sure I like the colors but I was trying to get it to show on the gray.  



I also finished the gingerbread house.  I just need to assemble the table runner for my daughter. Be sure and check out the other Hand Quilt Along links below.

Otherwise I made cookies this week and passed them out to our daughters, neighbors, and sent some off to relatives.



These truffles are one of my new favorites.  German Chocolate Truffles.



These are my other new favorite, Lemon Shortcake Cookies.  I  made a batch of these for the cookie trays, and ate quite a few.  I still have a few more trays to make up, so I made another double batch.  They seem to be a big hit at my daughter's house too.



This week I picked all the lemons off my little dwarf Meyer lemon tree.  It is only about 2 feet high, but this was the yield.  I also had 4 mandarin oranges that were ripe.  



Since the weather has been freezing at night, I decided to pick my last sunflowers and enjoy them this week.  


While John has been slowing regaining his strength this week, I had a bad day on Tuesday.  I have been sort of nursing a tooth I suspected had a filling that was falling apart.  I was hoping to not have to go to the dentist until January.  I reached up and thought I had food caught in it, and a sliver of my tooth fell apart.  I called and made an appt for my dentist the next day, and arranged for my grandson to stay with John.

Meanwhile, I was working on the next to last of my cookies I planned.  I went to turn on my kitchen faucet to rinse out the mixing bowl and my water started pouring out of the cabinet beneath it.   So I had to arrange for a plumber through the home warranty company.  The first one couldn't come out till Friday, but when I made another call, I did get someone out on Thursday.  Meanwhile I had a dishwasher full of dirty dishes .  I did end up needing a new faucet, but thank goodness that is fixed.

My tooth needed a crown and I really didn't want to spend that money before Christmas, but what was I going to do.

As most of California is in lockdown, my brother and sister-in-law won't be coming up for Christmas, which is disappointing.  Our county in California has had about 10 more deaths in the past week.

Slow Sunday Stitching, Decorating Done

 Another week has flown by, and it is time again to check in for Slow Sunday Stitching @ Kathy's Quilts. 

I haven't gotten much handwork done this week, but I have worked a bit on this stitching on a block that will be a table runner for my daughter.  I had done these 4 gingerbread men previously.  



I thought they needed a gingerbread house to go with them.  




These were all free coloring pages I found on the internet.

The majority of my week continued to be participating in my husband's ongoing home physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

My grandson and his girlfriend did come over early in the week and helped me get a lot of my decorations down from the attic.  I did not get out my Christmas Village and people this year, I didn't have the energy to.
