Color It Red Blog Hop

Welcome to my day of the Color It Red Blog Hop, hosted by Carol @ Just Let Me Quilt.  Many thanks to Carol for thinking of this blog hop, as it prompted me to start and finish several items I have wanted to do for a long time.

I first started searching through my books for a project, and I came up with this book, in which I love all the projects!

I had always loved one of the small quilts called Hattie's Basket, and it was red, perfect for this blog hop.  I pulled out the Civil War reproduction scraps I have cut up and started putting the quilt together.  This measures 15 inches square.

I really love how it came out.  I hand-quilted it, and it was a small enough project I could get it finished too!  I used the Hobbs Tuscany Collection Silk Blend which I won last year in a contest from Hobbs.  This was so much easier to use than whatever I used in my first and second attempts at hand-quilting!  Loved it!  I think I have enough to use for another hand-quilting project.

Sometime in January, Kathy Schmitz came out with the Love Sampler.  I bought it, and thought maybe I could get it done for the Color it Red Blog Hop.  Stitching went pretty fast, and I was able to finish it up before Valentine's Day!

I have a number of stitchery projects that are not quite finished.  I had this one from a Redwork Club my LQS used to have sitting in a pile, along with a baggie, with some fabric and buttons.  This UFO probably goes back to 2003 or so.

I made it into a cushion.  Didn't use the buttons.  The baggie didn't have any instructions about what I was supposed to do, but it was enough fabric for the back of the cushion and a border.  The little border around the heart says LOVE.

One last project I made was a bag for my grand-niece Lucy.  I found the pattern for the bunny here on Just Let Me Quilt with Therm O Web.

Today is the last day of the Color it Red Blog Hop.  The list for the whole hop is below.  Hope you have been having as good a time as I have with this hop!   Thanks again Carol for organizing it!

Hand Quilt-A-Long, Slow Sunday Stitching

Boy January just flew by, especially the past 3 weeks, and now it is the first Hand Quilt-A-Long check in for February.

Last week I was able to get my Love Sampler finished.  This is one of Kathy Schmitz's stitcheries.  I wasn't working on any applique at the time, and it went pretty fast, and then I was just ready to GET IT DONE!   I knew my applique BOMS were coming up in a few days.  It's even framed and not in a pile of things to finish!

I'll be working on several things for my handwork this weekend.  I have my Color It Red project which I am hand-quilting.  This is only the third thing I have hand-quilted, and it is not perfect or even near it.  So we can just call it "primitive quilting".  It is a small enough project I should have it done in a week or two. Can't reveal it just yet.  My day for the Color it Red Blog Hop is February 21.

The other thing I will be working on is Cassandra's Circle, Barbara Brackman's new Civil War BOM.  I prepped the pieces today, so it will be ready to applique.  This one is called Washington's Plume, and it is on a 36" block.

Check out the other Hand Quilt Along links below

Hand Quilt Along Links

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

I will also be linking up at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over there and check out what they have been doing too.  I love these Sundays when both are together!

What I Have Been Up To

I wanted to document a few things for the 2020 Finish-A-Long so I can find it later.

One of the items on my list was to finish January, February and March assignments for the Buhl-Bushong Quilt, the BOM I am working on through the Virginia Quilt Museum.  I finished this part of a border which was the assignment this month.  I suspect we are going to finish this border in February.

Another item on my list was to finish January, February and March assignments on the Ella Maria Duncan BOM offered by Sentimental Stitches.

Also this morning, I finished the Love Sampler, by Kathy Schmitz.    I love how it came out.  I have it hanging up already!  I really got going on it this week as I had no applique to work on!

Well now that that is finished, I need to prep the new BOM by Barbara Brackman called Casssandra's Circle.  The first block came out on Wednesday, and the first center block is 36".

I am also current working on my project for the Color It Red Blog Hop due to start February 17-21. hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt.  My day will be on the 21st.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Slow Sunday Stitching

It's time to check in again with Slow Sunday Stitching @ Kathy's Quilts.  I have tons of slow stitching to do this week.

Last week, I finished this piece from Kathy Schmitz's One Stitch At a Time Club.  This was actually a design I received last year and hadn't stitched yet.

Then right before I got this done, on Instagram, Kathy Schmitz had advertised a Love Sampler, which I just had to get.  I finished the above, and then have barely started the Love sampler.  This is just the top half of it.  I printed it out on one of those Sulky Stick N Stich sheets.

The other thing I am simultaneously working on by hand is the Buhl-Bushong Quilt that is being offered as a BOM by the Virginia Quilt Museum.  This month's assignment is to do four sets of flowers on this border.  I have almost 2 done.

I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Pop over there and check out what everyone has been up to.

Just a reminder the Winter Blues Blog Hop starts on Monday the 20th,  hosted by Carla @ Creatin in the Sticks.    Included below is the first day's schedule.
