STILL ON A ROLL

  

This week I was able to finish another item on my Quarter 3 of the Finish-A-Long.   My original list was here.  Item 3 was to hand-applique 2 of the Flourishes blocks, by Piece of Cake Designs.  This was an old BOM I had done 6 blocks I think and then put the project aside.  The owner of the quilt shop that used to be in my town knew I liked to applique, and told me she would give me the materials to make a shop quilt and to make mine.  I made the shop quilt, and only got so far with mine.  So I am trying to get mine at long last. 

I achieved my goal this quarter and finished 2 of these blocks.

Several days ago, I was thinking about starting another pumpkin quilt, and had to stop myself, I am working on an old BOM, The Great Pumpkin Quilt by Briar Rose, so I prepped and machine appliqued 2 more blocks.

Then I prepped 2 more, I hope to be able to sew down in the next few days.

I talked about my squirrel problem last time here, getting side-tracked with another project.  I continued working on  my blocks and the base is done, waiting to hand-applique the crows, and flags and beehive on.  This is a Cheri Saffiote quilt called Crow's Feet in a Book called Wednesday's Best.

Right now I am working on my house on Sweet Land of Liberty.  I am working on this with Susan and Edi.

Well guess I'd better get back to the sewing room!

I'm On a Roll, But Might Have a Squirrel Problem

I was on a roll yesterday.  I finished 1/2 of one of my 2018 Finish-A-Long projects, which was to hand-applique 2 Flourishes blocks, a BOM I set aside years ago.  I finally finished one of the blocks.  I hope to get the second one finished by next week, when I am due to report my progress.

Meanwhile, I have decided to restart Cheri Payne Saffiote's Sweet Land of Liberty.  I had done one block, years ago, then loaned my instructions to someone.  This is my finished block.  Lori@ Humble Quilts was having a quilt-a-long earlier this year.  I have saved her instructions/measurements for the blocks and am planning to work on this.  This is the block I had finished before:

Okay, this is where the squirrel comes in.  I knew I had a bag of fabric in the closet that I had set aside from taking a class years ago.  I thought these would be perfect for this quilt.  They are primitive type fabrics.  What I discovered was that the class was another of Cheri Saffiote's quilts called Crow's Feet in the book Wednesday's Best .  I found that I had 13 out of 36 blocks done.  

Today, I cut and sewed 10 more.  Now I just have 12 more to do, then add the borders, and the applique pieces.

Meanwhile back to the Sweet Land of Liberty, I made 5 of the economy blocks.

I also prepped for my saltbox house.  I need to hold off on this a bit, until I finish my applique on the Flourishes block.

I also prepped 2 more pumpkin  blocks for the Great Pumpkin Quilt.  These will be machine appliqued,  

I tend to sew on my machine, in the daytime, and at night sitting with DH I do hand work.

I think that is all I have going on right now.  Other than laundry.  My machine finally got its new shock absorbers and I have 3 weeks worth of laundry to do.

I'm joining Patty again at Elm Street Quilts in linking up my finish in the One Monthly Goal.

My One Monthly Goal for September  was to get the blocks of my 18-year-old UFO BOM Time Began in a Garden together.  I was happy to be able to do this. 

The next step, and finish in this piece would be to embroider the edges with blanket stitch, and several other stitches.

Unfortunately, as I discovered putting this together, the homespun is disintegrating on the back.  

As you can see in the next picture, the fabric is splitting.  

So I am at a dilemma on what to do next.  The front is not disintegrating that I can see.  I thought of cutting these all apart, rebinding them, but I am afraid of when sewing it down, it will disintegrate in those spots.

The other thing I thought of was to back it with black interfacing, and then finishing it off.  

The other option is to just leave it as it is and do nothing.  

Any thoughts on what I should do, I'd welcome the input!

SURPRISE DISCOVERY, JOHN'S CUSHION

Yesterday, as I was making my Fall Into a QAL block, I was looking through my landscape fabric for some wood grain for my shelf to put my jars on.  I found that, but I also discovered a container where I had another BOM, lighthouses, my favorite.  I forgot I even had this. I never started it, and I am thinking about putting these as a border for a quilt  I am making for my bed, with a lighthouse center, and sailing ships.  It has been stalled for too many years to count. 

Our grandson John is going to be 8 on Saturday  For Christmas last year, I made his sister Klara a little cushion with leftover princess fabric from her BD quilt.  He expressed a wish for me to make him a cushion too.

My daughter Katie, his mother, painted invitations to his party and they had a robot on the front.  So I I made him a robot pillow.

I also made him a pillowcase with robots and trains on it.

2018 Finish-A-Long, Q3-Another Goal Finished

I've been getting a little anxious about the goals I set for the Finish-A-Long, Quarter 3 co-hosted by Marci Girl Designs.  While I finished 2 of my 9 projects, I have have had a lot of other projects thrown into the mix, that were not on my list, such as daughter Katie's birthday quilt, which I talked about here

My two beautiful granddaughters, Klara, and Kyleigh.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending time with my youngest granddaughter Klara, who is almost 5 and while she was organizing my threads and then coloring, I was able to get Goal @2 on my list here done.  My goal was to get these fused blocks sewn down, and I completed this yesterday.

This is another started and stalled BOM.  These 4 blocks have been fused for years, just not sewn down until now,.  This was called the Great Pumpkin Quilt by Briar Rose.  I love this one, and am glad I finally have a chance to work on this for myself.

Today I need to work on another project, also not on my list.  Grandson John, who turns 8 on Saturday, has been wishing I would make him a small pillow, like I did his sister Klara last Christmas.  I am going to make him a pillow with a robot on it.

Hand Quilt-A-Long (HQAL)

It has been a crazy 3 weeks.  First off as I was getting ready to do my post last night for the HQAL, I discovered I had no internet, TV  or phone.  although it was supposed be fixed by midnight.  This was after a week of having my air conditioner go out and my washer on the fritz.   Luckily I have air conditioning again, but am waiting for parts for my washer.

 Three weeks ago I posted I was working on this.

I did finish the stitchery, made it into a wall hanging to give to my friend in Massachusetts when we took our granddaughter back to college in Massachusetts.  I was in such a frenzy at the time finishing this up, getting packed and getting things ready for my brother-in-law to stay with DH that I neglected to take a picture of the finished project. 

I was also working on this Flourishes block, hand applique.  

I took this with me to sew on the plane trip across country, but the lighting on the plane was not so great.  I did happen to get 2 more apples and 4-1/2 leaves stitched.  6 more leaves and I can call this block done!  I am sort of bored with it, and finding it hard to motivate myself.

I hope to finish this in the next  couple of days.  Also I will be sewing my Time Began in a Garden blocks together.  This was an old, old BOM, designed by Sarah Sporrer.  

I have the components together.  It was a quilt-as-you go project, so it is already quilted.

I Was Featured-Wednesday Wait Loss 82

While I was on vacation last week, I found out several of my my quilts were featured on Wednesday Wait Loss #82 by Jennifer@ The Inquiring Quilter.  I am so honored to be featured again, thanks so much Jennifer!

Last week, we took Kyleigh,. granddaughter #1 back to college in Massachusetts.  We spent several days sight-seeing, and meeting up with John's cousins we have never met.  We outfitted Kyleigh's Dorm room with necessities and everything we could think of she might need in the next few months.  It was a sad day Sunday when we left Kyleigh for the time!

One Monthly Goal-September

My goal for this month is to get the blocks for my Time Began in a Garden together.  This was a quilt as you go project.  I just need to sew the blocks together.
