UFO Blog Hop Starts Today, My Day

I'd like to thank Joan from Moosestash Quilting for the challenge of finishing a UFO, or something along an alien theme.  I have plenty of UFO's (unfinished objects) and was happy for this challenge.  I chose to finish two projects.  A list of the entire schedule is below.

The first project I decided to finish was my friend Jandra's Boho Bag.  I had had it at this stage for several months, the front of the bag partially embellished.  Jandra loves Minnie Mouse, so that was the theme.

I finished embellishing it first.  And added the lace, beads and fringe around the front flap.

I added doilies for pockets to the lining

The finished back and front.

I delivered it to her on Friday and she loved it.  She even has it displayed in her living room.

The second project I finished was my granddaughter Kyleigh's graduation quilt.  She graduated in May from nursing school in Boston.  I sort of had this mostly quilted when my Handiquilter Moxie decided to start doing some creative long stitches.  I took it off the frame and ended up finishing the quilting on my domestic machine while I was being sent a new part for the stitch regulator.  I gifted it to her this weekend.  The quilt was called Flourishes designed by Piece of Cake Designs.

So those are my two UFO finishes.  Be sure and visit the other talented bloggers below, and thanks again to Joan at Moosestash Quilting.

Flourishes Flimsy, One Monthly Goal, 2019 Finish-A-Long

I accomplished a biggie yesterday, I put together a flimsy for the Flourishes BOM, I think it came out in 1998.   I had completed the quilt top for the owner of the quilt shop that used to be in our town for a shop sample, and she gave me the supplies to do my own.  I had originally hand appliqued 7 of the blocks for myself and then stuck it in the closet for years and years, and years.   Last year I pulled it out of the closet, and it has been my One Monthly Goal hosted by Elm Street Quilts  to complete one block a month.  This was my May One Monthly Goal to get this to flimsy stage.  I was really excited yesterday when I got this together yesterday.

I took this picture outside, and I loved how it looked, and then looked closer at the picture on my I-pad and noticed a big mistake.   The two sides should have the flowers facing in.  I had switched the two long wrongs in the middle.  I was just going to leave it till today to rip out, but decided to take it apart last night, so I could just sew it together today.

This is the correct placement.  The original quilt had another border with sort of half tulips appliqued around it, but I really didn't like the tulips, so I am calling this top finished, finally, after all these years.

This was also #3 on my 2019 Finish-A-Long list for Quarter 2, to finish block #12 and get to flimsy stage.

I will be linking up to both Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and 2019 Finish-A-Long when the linkys come up.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

STILL ON A ROLL

This week I was able to finish another item on my Quarter 3 of the Finish-A-Long.   My original list was here.  Item 3 was to hand-applique 2 of the Flourishes blocks, by Piece of Cake Designs.  This was an old BOM I had done 6 blocks I think and then put the project aside.  The owner of the quilt shop that used to be in my town knew I liked to applique, and told me she would give me the materials to make a shop quilt and to make mine.  I made the shop quilt, and only got so far with mine.  So I am trying to get mine at long last.

I achieved my goal this quarter and finished 2 of these blocks.

Several days ago, I was thinking about starting another pumpkin quilt, and had to stop myself, I am working on an old BOM, The Great Pumpkin Quilt by Briar Rose, so I prepped and machine appliqued 2 more blocks.

Then I prepped 2 more, I hope to be able to sew down in the next few days.

I talked about my squirrel problem last time here, getting side-tracked with another project.  I continued working on  my blocks and the base is done, waiting to hand-applique the crows, and flags and beehive on.  This is a Cheri Saffiote quilt called Crow's Feet in a Book called Wednesday's Best.

Right now I am working on my house on Sweet Land of Liberty.  I am working on this with Susan and Edi.

Well guess I'd better get back to the sewing room!
