Scrap Happy, March

It’s again time for showing off our scrap projects!  ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, jewelry, dolls, socks or a sculpture.   Anything made of scraps is eligible.

If you'd like to join us and use up your scrap collection, instead of sitting around in bags, etc, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either e-mail Kate at the address on her Contact Me page, or leave a comment on her Scrap Happy Post.

I have been working on several projects.  Recently I attended a quilt camp, and I finished one of my potato chip quilts.  This will be donated to my guild's Community Service.

Also in the past two weeks I have joined two sew alongs.  The first is a Civil War Mini Sew Along by Kathleen Tracy at a Sentimental Quilter.    Each week she gives another block to make.

Friday another block came out.  I spent 3 days this week going through my scrap bins and pulling out my Civil War repros.

I also joined the Scrappy Meets Thrift Challenge on Instagram hosted by Reproquilt lover.   We are making 2 inch economy blocks.  These are the scraps I cut up.

This is what the quilt will eventually look like.

That's it for this month.

ScrapHappy September

It’s again time for showing off our scrap projects!  ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, jewelry, dolls, socks or a sculpture.   I even made a new flower garden with leftover paving stones.  Anything made of scraps is eligible.

If you'd like to join us and use up your scrap collection, instead of sitting around in bags, etc, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either e-mail Kate at the address on her Contact Me page, or leave a comment on her Scrap Happy Post.

You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. We welcome new members, and you don’t have to worry about making a long-term commitment or even join in every month. Regular contributors receive an e-mail reminder at least three days before the event.

On our 5th Wednesday quilt guild sewing day, I made a bunch more potato chip blocks.  One more block and I can put together a small quilt for our guild community service.   You can get the instructions here at Conquering Mt. Scrapmore with Brenda.

The last guild meeting I picked up these blocks on the free table.

I'm going on a quilt retreat soon, so I will be cutting up more 2.5 x 4.5 inch cotton rectangles and make more of these blocks.

I have this large back of cottons to cut up before I leave.

Be sure and check out what these talented bloggers have been doing using up their scraps.

ScrapHappy, June

It’s time for showing off our scrap projects! ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, jewelry, dolls, socks or a sculpture. Anything made of scraps is eligible.   Welcome to Hannah for joining us.

I've worked on several scrap projects this past month.   I finished Winter Blues by Bonnie Hunter.    It is now a flimsy.  The top was entirely made of scraps.  I am waiting on the backing and I will be having someone quilt this for me.

This month I have also worked on potato chip scrappy blocks. These are the potato chip blocks originated by Brenda @Conquering Mt. Scrapmore.    I am co-chair of community service for my quilt guild.  My co-chair recently gave me a box of flannel scraps leftover from projects we have made for community service.  I cut about 1/3 of what she gave me up.  For my potato chip blocks, I am using a 4.5 inch center fussy cut square instead of two 2.5 x 4.5 inch rectangles.   I am currently making community service tops for the guild.  These will be two smaller quilts for children.  I need about 4 more blocks for a girl, and 8 more for a boy.

Saturday my daughter and granddaughter came over and helped me set up more blocks for me to sew.

Another project I did this month was make another garden bed out of leftover paving bricks I had in the side yard.

If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn it into something beautiful or useful instead of leaving it to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? ScrapHappy May

I worked a bit on Winter Blues by Bonnie Hunter.    I cut out a pile of my blue scraps to begin piecing the border for the quilt.   I got half of them pieced but I need to piece the other half.  This time next month I should have the top finished!

This past week I used scraps in two other ways.  The past several years I have participated in the Comfort Quilt Challenge hosted by Sarah @Confessions of a Fabric Addict.    I am getting started a little late this year.  But I used scraps to make 3 quilts last week.

I made two quilts made with Potato Chip Blocks.  These are demonstrated by Brenda @Conquering Mt. Rushmore.    They go together really quickly.  I used the larger 2.5 x 4.5 inch rectangles.

The third quilt I made was using 5 inch squares.  I acquired these from the mother-in-law of my daughter.  Several years ago she was moving to another state and was trying to get rid of stuff she didn't need.  She was going to throw them away, and I told her to give them to me.  This will be another one of my charity donations.

That's it for this month.

ScrapHappy Day

This is my first month joining ScrapHappy Day.  I started a totally scrappy quilt last month, with scraps taken out of my my scrap barrels.  It is Winter Blues by Bonnie Hunter.  I am making it for a friend's daughter wedding gift in September.    This is how far I have gotten so far.
