Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!  I just wanted to show my one and only Valentine Quilt right now.  This was part of a Valentine Swap I was in back in 1999!  Still love this quilt!

I also wanted to show the beautiful orchid my husband gave me.  I have numerous orchids, but have never had this variety before.  My husband is basically home-bound, so around holidays, our daughter Katie, his personal shopper will pick up something and a card.  Such was the case this week when she brought this beautiful orchid.  Only 1-2 blooms were out last Saturday, but now they have almost all popped out!  Her and her husband brought us a delicious tri-tip dinner along with baked potatoes and broccoli!  All I had to do was provide dessert.  Great night we had!

I'll be linking up at Wednesday Wait Loss on The Inquiring Quilter.

Thanks for stopping by!

Busy, Busy, Busy

I've been really busy the past week on various projects, part of which I can't show because of two upcoming blog hops.

The Color it Red Blog Hop starts next week and I did finish my project yesterday.   This is hosted by Carol @ Just Let Me Quilt.    I can't wait to show this one.  I spent the past couple of weeks hand-quilting the project.  It is small, about 15 inches square.

Yesterday I started my project for the Dust of a Quilt Book Blog Hop which is the first of March hosted by Bea @Beaquilter.

Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop

My project comes from a book published in 1990.  I have dearly loved this quilt for years, and it is a theme both my husband and I love.  The trouble I ran into yesterday was that I needed to cut 12 backgrounds 4.5 x 8.5 inches, and I had a strip of fabric I thought I could get them all.  I don't know what my problem was, but I cut the first strip too narrow.  Then I only had one strip left, and I cut the 4.5 right, but cut the 8.5 too short.  So I ended  up with 4 pieces and am having to use something else too.  This quilt has a LOT of little pieces, plus a Y-seam.  It will be challenging.

Okay on to what I can show.  My niece sent pictures of the baby on the quilt I made, and Lucy carrying her little bag.

Yesterday afternoon after I messed up my cuts on my Dust Off a Book project, I decided to move on to something else.  Grandson Jaeger brought over his Letterman jacket for me to add/fix some patches.  He just received it several days before.  My daughter sort of knows how to sew, but it is not her thing.  She tried to attach the patches by  hand, and the sleeves are leather so it was hard.

Apparently Jaeger didn't tell her, like he told  me that the lining could be unzipped.  Or she didn't realize you could pull it away from the sleeves too.  It was a big mess.  I took all this out, pulled the lining off the sleeves, and attached all the patches.  Part of the big ones had been attached by the jacket company.

Now something I can show.  My One Monthly Goal for February is to put 15 swap blocks from long ago with others, make a quilt I am going to make into a slipcover for the chaise part of my couch.

I did get the quilt part done.   I have one on my poorly lit design floor, and Jaeger kindly held it up across the street at the park.

Now I just need to quilt it, and assemble it into a  cushion cover.  I measured it and it is going to fit.

That's it for now.  Let's see if I can cut accurately today!

Slow Sunday Stitching

Another week has flown by,  and time again to check in for Slow Sunday Stitching.   I had sort of a crazy week last week.  Friday night my heating went out.  I called the home warranty company on Saturday.  DH wanted a specific company that had been here before.  They did not work on the weekends.  Said it would be Monday or Tuesday.  First night it got down to 67 degrees.  DH is cold on the warmest of days, so I left the space heater in the room in which he sleeps.  I piled the quilts on.  Second night, it got down to 62 degrees.  The next morning, he remarked "that's not that bad" until he sat down on the toilet!  Monday evening we got it fixed, and it was just a fuse had burned out!

Anyway Sunday and Monday I spent mostly slow stitching in the heated room!  It was too cold to do anything in the other part of the house.

What I will be working on this  Sunday is finishing up my primitive quilting on my Color It Red project for the blog hop hosted by Carol @ Just Let Me Quilt.  I took a really fuzzy picture, and can't fix it now as DH is asleep.

I will also be working on the new BOM by Barbara Brackman called Cassandra's Circle.

I'll be linking up to Kathy's Quilts in the morning for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over and see what everyone has been up to.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I Was Featured on Wednesday Wait Loss 157, 2020 Finish-A-Long

Wednesday Wait Loss Featured smaller.jpg

I found out this morning I was one of the ones featured on Wednesday Wait Loss #157 on the Inquiring Quilter.     I had talked about my couch quilt project here.  Thanks so much Jennifer for this honor!   I haven't worked too much on this the last couple of days.

What I have been doing is finish one of my 2019 Finish-A-Long projects.  I wanted to get this baby quilt quilted and  mailed off to my niece.  She had her second baby girl the first part of January.

This is an indoor picture.

Outdoor picture wasn't much better, due to overcast day.

I had some Peter Rabbit toile I used for the background.

I made 2-year-old Lucy, the baby's older sister a little bag.  I used this Valentine sew-a -long applique for the bunny I found here on Just Let Me Quilt with Therm O Web.

I had some 30's reproduction Valentine fabrics I used.

That's it for today.  I have had a migraine all day.  My meds don't seem to be doing anything except making me wiped out.   Think I am going to go in the dark living room where DH is playing games and maybe do some handwork.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

One Monthly Goal

It's time for goal-setting on One Monthly Goal at Elm Street Quilts.  I continue to appreciate this monthly motivation and appreciation everything that Patty does!

For February, my one monthly goal is to finish my couch project that I talked about here.  My lounge section I sit on to stitch at night has a patched area I have been covering up with a quilt.  The problem with it is that when I scoot off the couch it comes untucked.  I plan to make a quilt then sew it up one side like a slip cover.

I have some old swap blocks I plan to incorporate into this quilt.

For my one monthly goal, I need to make 24 more blocks, set them, quilt it and finish my slipcover project.

This is the area I need to cover and the quilt I am currently using.  I'm going to use this shaded half-square triangles as the setting.   The alternate blocks will be the swap blocks from long ago.

Hand Quilt-A-Long, Slow Sunday Stitching

Boy January just flew by, especially the past 3 weeks, and now it is the first Hand Quilt-A-Long check in for February.

Last week I was able to get my Love Sampler finished.  This is one of Kathy Schmitz's stitcheries.  I wasn't working on any applique at the time, and it went pretty fast, and then I was just ready to GET IT DONE!   I knew my applique BOMS were coming up in a few days.  It's even framed and not in a pile of things to finish!

I'll be working on several things for my handwork this weekend.  I have my Color It Red project which I am hand-quilting.  This is only the third thing I have hand-quilted, and it is not perfect or even near it.  So we can just call it "primitive quilting".  It is a small enough project I should have it done in a week or two. Can't reveal it just yet.  My day for the Color it Red Blog Hop is February 21.

The other thing I will be working on is Cassandra's Circle, Barbara Brackman's new Civil War BOM.  I prepped the pieces today, so it will be ready to applique.  This one is called Washington's Plume, and it is on a 36" block.

Check out the other Hand Quilt Along links below

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

What I Have Been Up To

I wanted to document a few things for the 2020 Finish-A-Long so I can find it later.

One of the items on my list was to finish January, February and March assignments for the Buhl-Bushong Quilt, the BOM I am working on through the Virginia Quilt Museum.  I finished this part of a border which was the assignment this month.  I suspect we are going to finish this border in February.

Another item on my list was to finish January, February and March assignments on the Ella Maria Duncan BOM offered by Sentimental Stitches.

Also this morning, I finished the Love Sampler, by Kathy Schmitz.    I love how it came out.  I have it hanging up already!  I really got going on it this week as I had no applique to work on!

Well now that that is finished, I need to prep the new BOM by Barbara Brackman called Casssandra's Circle.  The first block came out on Wednesday, and the first center block is 36".

I am also current working on my project for the Color It Red Blog Hop due to start February 17-21. hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt.  My day will be on the 21st.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Wednesday Wait Loss

It has been awhile since I linked up for Wednesday Wait Loss @ The Inquiring Quilter.  Right now, I am working on many projects  by hand and machine.  One of  them Bonnie Hunter Mystery Frolic.

I actually have 6 blocks done, many, many more to sew together.

The other project I am actively sewing by  machine is sort of a drEAMi  (Drop Everything and Make it) sort of project.

This is where I sit at night to hand sew.  It is sort of a chaise lounge off to the side of the couch.  The couch is made of a corduroy type fabric, and one section under where I sit split on the low part, and I ironed a patch inside.  That corrected the defect, but sort of puckered up the surrounding fabric and I don't like to look at it.  So I covered it with one of the first quilts I ever made for my husband.  It was called a shaded nine patch I think.  When I scoot off to get  up, it becomes untucked all over the place and it is getting very annoying.

So my brilliant idea for this drEAMi was to make a quilt, sew it up to that point that the armrest is and just tuck the top part in.   I will probably put velcro at the very top, and just tuck the part under the armrest in.

A long, long time ago (2005) I was in a Yahoo Group with a bunch of quilters, and we had something called Lotto.  We would have a certain focus fabric and make a block of your choice.  Then there would be a drawing and someone would win the blocks.

Well one month I won the blocks, so I searched  for those in the closet and drawers and found them.

This was the focus fabric.  I think we had intentions of it being a Christmas quilt, but these are fine with me for my slip cover.  All the blocks had this fabric in it.

Here are the blocks I won, there were 15.

I wanted to do a shaded alternative block, and I made 40 of those yesterday.

I've been working on the kitchen table with a tablecloth on it.  I guess it is better to use a larger mat when trimming the blocks, because I discovered this today!   I went right off the mat and onto my table cloth!

The quilt will eventually look sort of like this.  I need to make 24 more pieced blocks and I can start piecing it together.

I also recently started Pieces from the Past Sew Along @Melva Loves Scraps.   This Sew Along will end in March of 2021, and I decided it would be perfect for my grandson Jaeger's  graduation quilt.  The first block was a signature block.  I will wait until I find out the date he graduates and put that in then.

This was the first block.  Instead of 30s fabrics I will be using more masculine type fabric.

As if that wasn't enough, Barbara Brackman's new applique BOM started today, Cassandra's Circle.  I found some fabric I have in my stash I'm going to use for background, will just need something coordinating for the borders.

I'll be linking up for Wednesday Wait Loss @ Inquiring Quilter.  Thanks so much Jennifer for this inspiration!

One Monthly Goal

It's time to link up January finishes for One Monthly Goal, hosted by Patty at Elm Street Quilts.  I really continue to appreciate this monthly motivation.

My One Monthly Goal for January I stated here  was to turn a pile of fabric into a quilt, and have it done for the Winter Blues Blog Hop which I participated in here.

I had had these fabrics in a pile forever to make a quilt I loved.  It was called China Dishes by Terri Christopherson.

I did accomplish my goal.   It looks so good hanging on my blue walls!

I'll be linking up with Elm Street Quilts for One Monthly Goal.  Thanks so much again Patty for the motivation, and for all you do to gather the wonderful sponsors!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
