SAHRR 2025-Round 3

This week the prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin came from the organizer of this event, Quilting Gail, and her choice was stars.

The first thing I did was attach the past two weeks' blocks to my centerpiece.

I tried to decide what kind of star I wanted to do, and in thumbing through my Accuquilt dies, decided to use my Priscilla's Stripe die, which I had not used yet.  These are 6 inch finished blocks.

The schedule for the Stay at Home Round Robin is as follows:

HQAL, Slow Sunday Stitching

This past week we had a 5th Wednesday, and for our guild, that means that we meet at a local church from 9-2 and sew, either quilt quilts that we have pin-basted or work on tops.  For me and my co-chair of Community Service, Cathy, we have a bunch of stuff to tote to the church, the quilts, extension cords, thread, ironing boards, table risers, cutting mats and rulers and rotatory cutters.  Plus we have a potluck lunch.  I had spent the previous couple of days cutting out pieces for a potato chip quilt top, plus cutting out 8 blocks for my Stay at Home Round Robin.  I had chosen a 9 inch block called Wandering Star from the Quilter's Cache website.  Since my quilt top will be going to our Community Service I felt I could work on it at workday.  I haven't sewn any of the blocks together yet, I am waiting till next week's prompt to see if I want to add sashing between them.

This was our workday.  We pull the tables to the edges of the room as that is where the power outlets are.  We don't want anyone tripping on cords.  There are a few tables that aren't shown in this picture though.  We had a good turnout and an excellent potluck.

Friday I had the privilege of attending my youngest granddaughter Klara's Battle of the Books event at her school.  There are 6 teams that have read a number of books during the year, and they are asked questions about the books.  They have a buzzer to push if they know the answer.  Two teams will be asked questions, and then one member from each team will go and try to answer questions.  There were a lot of pressing of buzzers before the question had been completed, and a lot of pressing of buzzers for no apparent reason.  It was a fun event to attend.  I stayed for most of the day, but left when lunchtime came around.  Klara's team came in 4th.   She was able to answer quite a few questions correctly herself.

This week I have been working on getting a lot of projects done, and have a lot of handwork for Slow Stitching Sunday.

I need to sew the binding down on Woven Wreaths.  Our quilt show this year is Red and White quilts and I am going to enter this.

I am also appliquing a small piece, I just started.

One of my granddaughter Kyleigh's best friends is getting married in April.  I got her a table cloth and napkins, but am making this Dresden Plate table topper,  I just need to sew down the edges of the backing to the front.

I found this Nancy's Notions kit I had bought probably 20+ years ago, and decided it would be perfect.  I keep coming across it, and it jumped out at me to make.  You could make coasters too, but I cut out another table topper for me that I plan to take to a retreat the end of February.

Kyleigh is giving Madilyn her wedding shower which I am invited to.  I found this towel kit in my stash too which I plan to stitch up.  It is all prepped and ready to go.
Madilyn lives in Florida, so it is appropriate.  I plan to link up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

The Hand Quilt Along links are below, and welcome to Laura for joining us!

SAHRR-Round 2

The prompt for Round 2 was from  Anja @Anja Quilts and was for HSTs, half square triangles.

Last week, my blocks ended up being 9 inches, so this week I looked in Quilter's Cache again, and found another 9 inch block, called Wandering Star.

This week Community Service at my guild had a workday to either quilt or make blocks.  Since my project will be going to our Community Service, I cut out my blocks and work on them there.  I made a total of eight blocks.

I have not attached any of the blocks yet, I am still deciding on what/if I am going to use sashing between the blocks, and am going to wait till next week's round to decide.  I had a couple of options maybe for sashing.

Slow Sunday Stitching

It was another super busy week.  Tuesday was my oldest daughter Kristen's 47th birthday and we had a family dinner here.  Everyone was able to come except grandson Jaeger who is back at college.

The next day, on Wednesday was our guild's Community Service workday at my house.  So right after dinner I needed to set up for that.  We had a good turnout, 8 people including myself.  We were able to get quite a few quilts prepped for basting day.

Thursday I had lunch with my friend Jandra, who happens to be Kyleigh's fiance's grandmother.   Their dog, Maple, loved the quilted coat I made, but I need to make an adjustment and enlarge the straps under her belly which means I need to take the velcro and snaps off, and binding off and attach about 6 inches more fabric.

The rest of the week I have been working on one of my entries for our quilt show in May.   I had to wait to get my embroidery machine back from being serviced.  It went out in December when I was in the midst of making Christmas ornaments.

I got this machine embroidery pattern with Father Christmases from Bird Brain Designs.    They also have this in hand embroidery, but I didn't have time to do that.  There are 13 Santas plus 21 little embroideries that are cornerstones with the sashing.  I was able to get them all embroidered.  I just need to clean up the threads and cut them to size.   I got the sashings cut out.  I am planning to take this project to quilt camp the end of February as my project to work on putting this together, if I don't do it beforehand/

What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching is this block on Folk Art Sampler.

I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

SAHRR-Week 2

This week's prompt for the Stay At Home Round Robin was from Kathleen @Kathlelen McMusing.  "Make a King’s Crown block/s for your first round OR make blocks that begin with your first initial or my initial K".

My first initial happens to be K also.  I decided to go to Quilter's Cache and see what other quilt blocks I could find that started with K.  I found two that suited me,  Kristen's Patchwork Square, and Katie's Choice.  I have daughters named Katie and Kristen, so I chose to make 2 of each of these blocks.

These are the Katie's Choice blocks.

These are the Kristen's Patchwork Squares.

I didn't attach these to my center piece yet.  I am going to wait and see what next week's prompt is.

Slow Sunday Stitching

This week was our guild meeting, and it was a nice meeting.  We received 18 or so quilts for our Community Service.  I spent one of my days this week preparing backings for 6 quilts we had received at the previous meeting.  Next week is our workday at my house where we cut batting and binding and package them up in bags with our labels, so we will have them prepared for our basting day next month.  We didn't have basting day last month because we skipped 2 workdays in November and December because of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We have a 5th Wednesday this month, where we work on quilting quilts or piecing quilts.  We meet at a local church for about 4 hours and have a potluck lunch.

This week I assembled some blocks for the Stay at Home Round Robin, hosted by Quilting Gail.  These were blocks I had picked up the free table at our guild.

This week I also worked on a quilted coat for my grand-dog Maple.  The only thing left to do is the binding and adding the Velcro and stitching buttonhole stitch around the opening where you can attach the collar clip.

This is Maple, and my granddaughter Kyleigh and her fiance Andrew.

This week I also finished a birthday gift for my daughter Kristen.  She loves birds and I have had this project for about 2 years, intending it for a gift for Kristen.  We are having a family dinner on Tuesday night for Kristen.

I've also been working on grandson Keaton's beanie.  I hope to have it done by Tuesday night so I can give it to him Tuesday night, before he leaves for school back in West Virginia.

I have about 6 rows to go.  This is what I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching.  I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

SAHRR 2025, Week 1

I am participating again in the Stay At Home Round Robin, which began this week, hosted by Gail @Quilting Gail.  This is my 5th year of participating in this, and I look forward to it every year.  I generally donate these quilts to my guild's Community Service.

For my center block this year, I actually took some blocks I picked up on the free table at my guild.  Someone had donated a bunch of cute lighthouse blocks and I chose 2 of these.  Someone had also donated some primitive blocks they had stitched, and I chose 2 of those, and sewed all 4 blocks together.

ScrapHappy January

It’s again time for showing off our scrap projects!  ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, jewelry, dolls, socks or a sculpture.   Anything made of scraps is eligible.

If you'd like to join us and use up your scrap collection, instead of sitting around in bags, etc, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either e-mail Kate at the address on her Contact Me page, or leave a comment on her Scrap Happy Post.

What I have been working on the past couple of weeks is a dog coat for my grand-dog Maple.  She is a Great Dane.  I am using this pattern.  I had to adjust it and make it bigger than the largest size on the pattern.   The underside of the coat is going to be out of fleece.

I've been piecing the blocks for the coat out of my scraps.  I still need to make some more to make it Maple's size.

This is a picture of Maple.

I have also been working on my potato chip blocks.   I generally make these quilts and donate them for my guild's Community Service.
