One Monthly Goal, November

I actually finished my One Monthly Goal for November.  I stated my goal in this post here, which was to quilt my Scrap Dance Quadrille and bind it. This was a mystery quilt by Carole @From My Carolina Home earlier this year.  I gifted it to an old friend of mine who has been undergoing a difficult couple of years.  I actually sent it to her, and had to have her take a pictures because I sent it off before I took a picture.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Hope everyone that celebrates had a Happy Thanksgiving!  In preparation for Thanksgiving I participated in the Turkey Trot Blog Hop hosted by the fabulous Joan @Moosestash Quilting.  You can see my post here.  

In addition last week, one of the major highlights of my week was to meet our very lovely Kim @Sarah Lizzies.   I found out she was coming to San Francisco to visit her daughter prior to Thanksgiving and just after.  In fact she is flying back to Tasmania today.  Several years ago Kim had a giveaway of one of the Parisian boots she had made, and I was the lucky recipient of one of them.  You can read about it here.  


I had wanted to give her something I had made, and I had an idea in mind.  Many years ago I had taken a Judith Baker Montano class at Empty Spools in Asilomar and had started this piece.  I was able to finish it up, and gift it to Kim this past week.  



I live about 2-1/2 hours from San Francisco, have never driven in San Francisco, but I made it there OK and back.  Kim and I had a lovely lunch and visited some afterwards and the time seemed to fly by.  I hated to leave, but Kim's daughter was coming to pick her up, and I needed to get on the freeway again and make my way home before afternoon traffic.   Traffic was a mess and took me about 4-1/2 hours to get home, but it was the highlight of my week and an absolute delight to meet Kim, and I wouldn't have missed the opportunity for anything.   One of the kind servers in the cafe we were at took our picture before we left.  


Then it was time to get home and get prepped for Thanksgiving.  We had a full house this year, with my two daughters and their families, and my stepdaughter Dawn who stayed with me.  We were able to get some family pictures in the park across the street.

Turkey Trot Blog Hop, My Day


                                                 


The Turkey Trot Blog Hop started Monday,  hosted by the fabulous Joan @Moosestash Quilting.  

The challenge this time is to "Think turkeys, thankfulness, or Thanksgiving fabric.  November also means the beautiful colors of fall, so sew something with orange, golds, browns, greens or cranberry reds".

I love fall, and all those colors.  Many thanks to Joan for another fun hop!

When I first started quilting back in the late 1990's, I saw this pattern in a magazine, and it was one of my first quilting projects.  I thought of writing the gobble, gobble on it myself.  



I have always loved the primitive type quilting and stitchery, and the turkey in the header was also one of my first projects.  

Another of my long-ago Thanksgiving projects was this wool turkey banner.  



A quilt shop in my town that used to be open in the late 90's through 2000's had a craft night once a month and we would make various projects, and one of the projects we made was this stuffed turkey.




Last week, a friend and I went to this vintage type shop that had it's Christmas decorations out, and I found this guy and just had to have him.  It's something I would have made if I had seen the pattern.



What I finished for this blog hop was my Autumn Harvest wall hanging.  This is a Bird Brains Design.  


Last but not least, I purchased a fall panel called Autumn Harvest by Maywood Studio.  It had a pumpkin, flowers, and a squirrel, in my favorite fall colors, and it was in flannel.  I also purchased the striped fabric.  I then found out there was sort of a pattern on Bonnie Sullivan, the designer's website, and purchased a fat quarter bundle so I could make the stars.  I fussy cut the striped fabric so I could make the stars.  After I got the top together, I wanted more of that stripe for the last border.  Luckily I could still obtain it.  I used my leaf die on my Accuquilt to cut out the leaves in the corners, and my Cricut to cut out the squirrels.

Slow Sunday Stitching

 It's been a busy couple of weeks.  My granddaughter Klara's BD was October 29th, but her BD party was November 4th.  It was a scavenger hunt at a local mall.  There were two pages of items they needed to take pictures of.   My daughter purchased 20 T-shirts, and I cut out 20 motifs on my Cricut.  This was Klara's.  The rest of them had the I'm ten removed.


My laptop is having a hard time transferring pics from my Iphone tonight.  

My pistache tree is showing beautiful fall colors.  


My pomegranate tree has fruit that is just about ripe I think.  


This past week I have worked a bit on my Storm at Sea blocks for my lighthouse quilt.  I still need to cut out more pieces with the Accuquilt die.  


I recently visited a dear friend who is 87 and not doing so well.  I took her this quilt to keep her warm.  I also took her a couple of homemade soups for nourishment.  

 

This week I also completed my One Monthly Goal, quilting this quilt.  I mailed it off to a good friend of mine that has been having some health issues and forgot to take a picture.  I am hoping when she receives it, she can get a picture taken with it, before I have to report in for One Monthly Goal.  This was the Scrap Dance Quadrille mystery by Carole @From My Carolina Home.  



Saturday I attended the Pioneer Quilt Guild's Quilt show and saw some lovely quilts.  I tend to favor the ones with embroidery and applique, my favorite things, but these are some of quilts displayed.













What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching is one of my projects for the Turkey Trot Blog Hop which starts next week.  I will be sewing down the binding.  Head on over to Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching and see what everyone is working on.

Indigo Way-Quiltville Winter Mystery

 I look forward every year to Bonnie Hunter's Winter mysteries.  I have made I think 3 of them in the past.  

She came out with the introduction post on Tuesday, you can find it here. She usually comes out with paint chip cards to show what colors she used.  Each time the paint chip cards come out, I go up to Lowe's, and I always meet others that are doing the mystery.  This time I don't need the cards.

 I saw the introductory post and knew exactly what I was going to use.  Back in late 1999-early 2000s I was making my Dear Jane Quilt, and collecting reproduction fabrics, especially at Reproduction Fabrics.com.  At that time, there was a BOM offered I never worked on, it was called Indigo Stars.  I mainly hadn't worked on it because you needed to pretreat the fabrics before you used them.

After the Bonnie Hunter's reveal this week, I pulled out the baggie of fabrics and pre-treated them and ironed them all up, and pulled fabrics for the other colors to.  I still need to look for some more reds in my stash, maybe a few more light blues.  


The first clue for the mystery comes out on Good Friday.  I am all ready to go!

One Monthly Goal, November

 

It's time to post November's One Monthly Goal at Stories From the Sewing Room.  Many thanks to Anne-Marie for this monthly motivation.

I didn't make last month's monthly goal which was to make PJs and Sloth Wall hanging for my granddaughter's BD.  I got the PJs and top done, but when I went to embroider the sloth appliques down with my embroidery machine, it got stuck on a screen and wouldn't come out of it and needed to go into the shop.

For November, my goal is to quilt Scrap Dance Quadrille, and bind it,  This was one of Carole's @From My Carolina Home mystery quilts from earlier this year.  The top is on my longarm, and I had thread delivered today, so it's ready to go.  I have a friend who hasn't been doing well, and I would like to send it to her.
