SAHRR '24, ROUND 5

 

The prompt for this week's round of the round robin was from Quilting Gail.    Her choice for this round was 4.  You can do whatever you want, but it must have the element 4 in it.  

My little magic baggie of parts I picked up from the free table at guild last year still had some things I could use surprisingly.  I put 4 units together, and made a few more, so I had 4.  Each unit has 4 different blues.  

These will be the cornerstones.  I am waiting to add them till I see what next week's prompt, and the last week's will be.

It Moose Be Love Blog Hop Challenge Starts Today

 

Welcome to the It Moose Be Love Blog Hop Challenge which starts today,  and also happens to be my day,  hosted by the fabulous Joan @Moosestash Quilting.    Many thanks to Joan for another wonderful hop!

The challenge this time:  "It's the month of "Love".  Show us what it is you love.  Moose are optional of course, LOL!"  

I had fully intended to do something with a moose, I had a panel that I plan to make a camping quilt for my granddaughter's boyfriend Drew, who happens to love moose.   But then decided to postpone the moose camping quilt till next month, his birthday.  This is the panel.  

Instead of the moose, I decided to make a birthday gift for his grandmother, who loves Mickey and Minnie. I found this panel in Albuquerque last year when I went to see my grandson play Lacrosse at UNM.  He took me to several quilt stores while I was there.  Drew's grandmother also loves hearts, and red, and gingham.  This panel was a Thomas Kinkade panel and it looks like Mickey and Minnie are in Paris and very much in love.    

I first made some heart blocks to put in the corners, I didn't plan to do much with this quilt just something simple.  

I made this Woven Heart Quilt block that I found here free at Generations Quilt Patterns.  I really didn't like these hearts against the Mickey panel and the pink gingham that had small embroidered hearts on it.  It was hard to get a good picture as it was rainy and dreary outside and my house lighting isn't that great if the sun isn't out.  I found another pieced heart on Cluck Cluck Sew here.    I also cut out multiple hearts with my Accuquilt heart dies.

I'm due to visit my sister soon and thought I would make a little Valentine table topper as a thank you for letting us stay with her.   So I took those first heart blocks I made and put them together and quilted it for her.  

Lastly, as a guild challenge this month we are challenged to make a small wallhanging, no more than 20 inches to reflect what we love, or are passionate about.  So I created a semi-crazy quilt type piece that shows the things I love, first and foremost my family, gardening, quilting, crazy quilting,  mermaids, anything to do with the ocean, lighthouses, sailing, music, and gnomes.  I cut out a couple of motifs on my Cricut and used iron on vinyl.

ScrapHappy February

It’s again time for showing off our scrap projects!  ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, jewelry, dolls, socks or a sculpture.   Anything made of scraps is eligible.

If you'd like to join us and use up your scrap collection, instead of sitting around in bags, etc, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either e-mail Kate at the address on her Contact Me page, or leave a comment on her Scrap Happy Post.

You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. We welcome new members, and you don’t have to worry about making a long-term commitment or even join in every month. Regular contributors receive an e-mail reminder at least three days before the event.  

I have continued to work on my potato chip blocks.  You can get the instructions here at Conquering Mt. Scrapmore with Brenda.   I worked on these again  at our 5th Wednesday in January,  Community Service workdays for my guild.  We have about 5 hours of sewing time.  I did finish a top this time, it is ready for workday at my house the end of the month when we cut the batting and binding and package it up for pin basting day.  

Another way I am using scraps, I started yesterday.  I am hoping to get this quilt done by next week when I visit a childhood neighbor.  Several years ago, Deanna @Wedding Dress Blue had a Star Kissed Quiltalong which I have made before.  It is a good use of scraps, particularly squares.  I had bunches, and bunches of 2.5 inch squares.  I am making the throw size, so I needed first to make four 25 patches, which I have done.  

My next step is to make 16 4-patches, and I am in the midst of doing that.  

Lastly, this isn't totally scraps, but I picked up a baggie of blocks and components on the free table at a guild meeting last year.  I have been working with that baggie of free parts to make my SAHRR (Stay At Home Round Robin) that is co-hosted by Gail @Quilting Gail and other co-hosts.  Each week one of the co-hosts gives a prompt of what the next round is going to be.  This is my quilt so far.  The only thing I have added is the white on this last round, everything else came out of the free baggie.  

This will be a quilt for our Community Service to be donated to a local hospital for a hospice patient.

SAHRR '24, ROUND 4

 

The prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin this week was by Brenda @Songbird Designs and was for a square in a square.  

I still had some completed blocks in the baggie I picked up from the free table at guild meeting.   I started assembling my quilt, and realized I needed 2 more blocks.  Luckily for me, there were some parts to complete 2 more blocks.  

This is my completed top for round 4.

HQAL, Slow Sunday Stitching

 

It has been another busy week, so much so I needed a day off on Friday from my quilt mini-group.  I woke up with a migraine I couldn't get rid of, so I stayed home.

This was the week we had our board meeting.  Most of the projects I worked on this week I can't show yet.  Several are for the It Moose Be Love Blog hop coming up in a couple of weeks.  I quilted one of those projects on my long arm.   It had a dual purpose, the blog hop, but was also a gift for my friend which I gave to her on Thursday.  Her birthday was Groundhog Day and I met up with her the next week and took her to lunch.   She happens to be the grandmother of my granddaughter Kyleigh's boyfriend.  

Last week on Slow Sunday Stitching, someone brought up that Crabapple Hill Studio was having an International Embroidery Month Stitch Along.  I have been working all week on the different hearts each day.  These are just a few.   

This week I also worked on this week's prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin.  This week's prompt was for triangles.  My little quilt started as a baggie I picked up on our guild's free table last year.  It had finished blocks, it had flying geese, half square triangles.  So I used the pre-made flying geese for this round.  

These are what I still have left from that original baggie.  

Also this week I finished the Blessings quilt top.  This is a quilt I originally started in 1999 with a group of Yahoo Group quilters.  I finished 1/4 of the top, the top left section, and put it away in the closet with all the fabrics for 20+ years.  About eight months ago, I took it out of the closet and started embroidering the remainder 3/4 of the embroideries.  I really want to put this quilt in our quilt show coming up in May.  

We have had a week of raining weather, wind, but Saturday turned out to be clear.  I took the opportunity to get out and mow my back lawn.  Looks like we will be clear until next weekend, and I still have a lot of work to go.  My brick patio and path down the side of the house have moss, which I like, but they have also sprouted tall weeds with all our rain.   I also have flower beds that need sorted out.

What I will be doing for Slow Sunday Stitching is working on my Woven Wreaths, the Kathy Schmitz stitch along.
