SAHRR '24, WEEK 6

 

Last week was the last week for a prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin, this time by Kathleen McMusing who gave us either letters or numbers for this round.

I decided this round to make x's and o's, I got the directions from Missouri Star here.  

I didn't want to make my little quilt any wider, so I added last week's 4 blocks and the x's and o's to the top and bottom.  I didn't have any more pieces in my magic baggie I picked up on the free table at a guild meeting last year.  

I hope to get it quilted by our parade of quilts day on March 18th. On the 20th I hope to show it at guild meeting.  This will be donated for a Community Service quilt for our guild to donate to Mercyful Quilts at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento, California.

SAHRR '24, ROUND 5

 

The prompt for this week's round of the round robin was from Quilting Gail.    Her choice for this round was 4.  You can do whatever you want, but it must have the element 4 in it.  

My little magic baggie of parts I picked up from the free table at guild last year still had some things I could use surprisingly.  I put 4 units together, and made a few more, so I had 4.  Each unit has 4 different blues.  

These will be the cornerstones.  I am waiting to add them till I see what next week's prompt, and the last week's will be.

SAHRR '24, ROUND 4

 

The prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin this week was by Brenda @Songbird Designs and was for a square in a square.  

I still had some completed blocks in the baggie I picked up from the free table at guild meeting.   I started assembling my quilt, and realized I needed 2 more blocks.  Luckily for me, there were some parts to complete 2 more blocks.  

This is my completed top for round 4.

SAHRR '24, Round 3

 

This week's prompt for the Stay at Home Round Robin was by Emily @The Darling Dogwood and was to add triangles.  

My project started with a baggie I found on the free table at a guild meeting.  There were a bunch of blocks already made, a bunch of flying geese and half square triangles.  

I started out with these.  Some of the flying geese had white strips between them.  

This is my quilt this week after my triangles are added.  

Three of the corner pieces were already made, so I made one more.    These are the pieces I have left from the freebie baggie.  

My plan for this will quilt be as a donation my guild will make for Mercyful Quilts here in Sacramento, CA.

SAHRR '24, Round 2

 

This week's round was hosted by Anja @Anja Quilts.  Her prompt was to use two colors, you can make any block you chose.

Last week the prompt was to make signature blocks, and I just made them for the four corners as stars.

As I explained before, my center blocks were from a baggie I picked up on the free table at a guild meeting.  Everything is blue and white in the baggie.  What I chose to do for this round was add some more of those blocks on this round.  This was the result.

SAHRR '24, Border 1

 

This week Wendy @Pieceful Thoughts  hosted the first round of the Stay At Home Round Robin.  She chose a signature block.  I tried to look for a different version of the signature block and finally made a decision.  I made the basic signature block and then made it into a star. 

I made the four corners signature blocks, and I will wait and see what next week's prompt is.

SAHRR '24, Center Block

 

Gail @Quilting Gail is hosting her Stay At Home Round Robin again this year.  This is one of my favorite yearly activities.  You start out with an orphan block, and each week one of the co-host SAHRR gives you a prompt of what the next round will be.  

This was my finished quilt from 2023.  I donated it to Community Service at my guild.

This was my top from 2022.  I donated it to Hands2Help

This was from 2021, and I also donated it also to Hands2Help.

This year I was looking through my odds and ends basket and didn't see anything that caught my eye.  Then I caught sight of this baggie of blocks and flying geese I picked up from the free table at my guild.  

I put together 4 of the blocks.  Don't know what this baggie of blocks and bits was supposed to be, but this is the center block I came up with.  I want to make it lap sized, and will be donated to the Community Service at my guild and I want it to end up rectangular.  It is starting out at 17.5 x 20.5.

Hand Quilt Along, Slow Sunday Stitching, SAHRR

This past week was jam-packed with activities.  Monday I had choir practice at the community center which is across the street from my home.  Tuesday was our quilt guild board meeting which I attend as I am co-chair of community service quilts.  Wednesday I gave my son-in-law a ride to the airport at 6:30 a.m.    Then at 9 a.m. was our guild pin basting day at the community center.  Wednesday afternoon our choir group did a performance at a local memory unit.  Those residents have such a good time, it doesn't matter that we might not always been on key.  They wave their hands around directing us and sing along with us.  It's always an uplifting experience.

Thursday I had an appointment with my Dr. and got a cortisone shot in my knee and lab work.  The good thing was every single one of my tests was perfectly normal, BP 1156/58.  When I got my lab work done, she put a cotton ball and tape on the site and told me to put pressure on it.  I went outside where it was pouring down rain and drove on home.  I got home and took off my coat and the whole arm of my sweatshirt was soaked.  

Friday was the Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop, hosted by Bea @Beaquilter.   You can read my post here.    I made this quilt for my granddaughter Kyleigh's boyfriend Drew.  I promised him a quilt when he graduated from nursing school in December.  Drew loves Moose, so I added some moose applique.   His birthday is this month.   I plan to give it to him next week.

I also was able to get my SAHRR done.   This is a round robin that is organized every year by Quilting Gail, and each week one of the co-host bloggers gives a prompt as to what you should add to the next round.  We start off with an orphan block, or something you didn't use for another quilt.  My block was leftover from grandson Jaeger's high school graduation quilt.  I made the block wrong and saved this one.  

The last prompt was by Quilting Gail for pinwheel blocks.  This is my finished quilt.  It measures 64x77 and I plan to donate it to community service in my guild.  

This week I also made a couple of St. Patrick's gnome pillows.  My embroidery machine is in the shop still, and I didn't have time to do any applique, so I printed some images on fabric, and did some quilting around the images.  

This week I have continued working on my Green Apples Blog Hop project.  I am sewing units together on machine, and then sewing rows together by hand at night.  

I also worked a bit on this embroidery.  This is a Bird Brain Design.  

I got my scrappy project back out.  It is Winter Blues by Bonnie Hunter, and will eventually be a wedding quilt for a family friend's daughter.   I last had this out in February when I had to pick everything in my work area, which happens to be the dining room/kitchen where I have really good lighting.   The end of the month I have a guild work day at my house for community service.  We cut batting and binding for donated quilt tops/backs and package them up.  Usually there are about 6 of us.  So the components for this quilt were in about 4 baskets/containers and all mixed up.  I am going to organize them so I can figure out what I am doing again.  They were basically organized before put them in my sewing room.  

The end of the month I have signed up for a 4-day Day Camp at my guild.  It is 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.   We will have a potluck dinner each day.   I am trying to organize projects to work on while there.  

Carole @From My Carolina Home has a mystery quilt along each year, and she just started a new one called Scrap Dance Quadrille.  I plan to make a lap quilt for an 80+ year old friend who has been having chronic medical issues.  Barbara likes purple so I pulled a bunch of purple fabric out.  I cut a bunch of the scrappy 4 inch squares out.  I still need to cut out the background squares and rectangles, but that will be one thing I will work on at Day Camp.  I probably have enough purple squares here to make 3 quilts but I got in the groove of cutting up scraps. 

Daughter Katie and I and Klara and John had a great lunch at Spaghetti Factory Saturday.  We always love it there, and didn't have to wait like we usually do at dinner time.  The other great thing is the great leftovers.
