Welcome to the last day of the Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop, and my day. I am so thankful that Bea @Beaquilter contacted me and invited me to this blog hop again. Somehow I missed it last year and was very sorry.
I dusted off my quilt books. I didn't go through all of them, but this is the oldest book I found, published in 1985.
I like to coordinate my blog hop projects frequently with a gift for someone. My granddaughter Kyleigh's boyfriend Drew graduated from nursing school in December and I promised him a quilt as a graduation gift. Drew chose the color, and I know he likes moose. Drew's birthday is coming up later this month, so it will be a combination graduation/BD gift. This is a picture of Drew and granddaughter Kyleigh.
The book I used was Another Nice Mix by Gerry Kimmel. This is one of my primitive books which I love. I started quilting in around 1994. This book came out in 1995. The quilt I made is called Mary Jane's Star. I have made this quilt several times.
Then I used this other book for the moose applique. I also used used my Accuquilt moose and bear dies.
I thought I had gotten a moose panel, but I am not sure if it is a moose or elk. Drew will probably let me know.
Thanks again Bea for the chance to participate in one of my favorite blog hops.

What a great quilt! and fun to add the panel to the back! and I love that you combined 3 books into one quilt!
ReplyDeleteWell, I like Drew already. Who wouldn't love a fellow "Moose" lover! Your safe with your panel, that's a beautiful moose. I love the star quilt you did, with the moose on it. I had to enlarge the picture to really see all the beautiful detail. Gorgeous! He will love it.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you combined designs from different patterns in your wonderful quilt. I'm sure Drew will love it!
ReplyDeleteGood looking couple and I "think" it is a moose - larger rack than an elk. (hope I am correct!). Great quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt and adding moose applique makes for an amazing quilt...love it! Using a moose panel on the back of your quilt is a great idea. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful that is! It came out great, and you got it bound, yay! I'm pretty sure moose are the only ones with that flattened rack, and elk are more like deer. Not 100% positive, but I do know that I'll eat ground moose any day - makes cow meat taste like it's cardboard - but I can't stand elk. LOL
ReplyDeleteThey are a very attractive couple, with similar career interests, so they probably get along very well!
Your moose quilt is beautiful! What a winning combination with an older book/pattern, that gorgeous panel, and your Accuquilt dies. Nice job! Love this blog hop - so fun to read about the oldies. You've got my oldest book beat - mine is a 1994 publication.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely looking couple they make! Moose are very common in my home province of Newfoundland. That looks like a moose to me. How clever you are to combine these elements into that gorgeous quilt. And you have moose and bear accuquilt dies!
ReplyDeleteYour star quilt with the moose looks like the perfect quilt for the young man! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful quilt, Karrin! It sounds perfect for Drew. I bet he'll love it! And, yes, that's a moose on your panel - I saw one in the wild when we were hiking last fall!
ReplyDeletePerfect quilt, and yes it is a moose. They have the flattened antlers. I also like moose in quilts, but I would never approach a living moose because they can be quite dangerous. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is a lovely graduation/birthday quilt! It looks fantastic, and you were even able to dust off three books, well done!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous quilt! I love the combination of books you used to make it and I am sure Drew will be thrilled. I love the colors and the surprise back is perfect.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I like that one! I bet he just loves it too! Great job and thanks for sharing these books!
