Slow Sunday Stitching

This week has been one of ups and downs.  I have gotten a lot accomplished, and then come to standstills.

I was able to get this block done for a private Christmas BOM I am in.

This was from the Pieces From the Past Sewalong by Melva Loves Scraps.  This is called the Double T, and it was originally published in the Kansas City Star, not sure what year.  These blocks will be going into grandson Jaeger's graduation quilt this year.

I was also able to work on some of my Ella Maria Deacon blocks.  This one was the one that was giving me so much grief a couple of weeks ago.  Instead of starting over, I trimmed down the last two sides a bit, and made it work.  It is not perfect, but it is 9-1/2 inches like it is supposed to be.  The first version of this block measured 10 inches, too big.

I also finished this block, I changed it a big, and used broderie perse in the corners, different than the original.

For Slow Sunday Stitching this week I will be working on this block, another Ella Maria Deacon.

I'll be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over and check out what everyone  has been working on.

The rest of my week I did some moving stuff around.  I had a record, tape, CD player in my sewing room, in an inaccessible spot and it never got used.  I decided to move it out near the rooms I work in, namely the kitchen/dining room.  I moved my player, record collection, CDS and tapes.  Its all set up now and accessible and I am loving it!  Music has always been a big part of my life.

In order to set it up out here, I had to move the stuff which was on the bottom of the shelf, which was containers of lace, threads, beads, etc for my crazy quilting.  I moved these containers back in my sewing room on the dresser I took my music and player off of.  I was even able to use a shelf for my Accuquilt dies.

My problems this week have come when I decided to get rid of some magazines/books on the shelf above  this, which is about 10 inches from the ceiling and goes from this corner, over to the other corner over the closet.   This wallpaper was up when I moved my sewing room to this end of the house, and I wish I had taken it down before I moved in here, but as my BIL was helping us move that weekend  it was sort of a rush, and no time for me to peel it down and repaint.

Anyway those chickens are a UFO and are attached to the shelf.  When I was taking stuff off the shelf, I heard a creaking noise and realized the L-brackets holding it up were coming away from the wall.  John is no longer able to do anything like fix this, and I asked him what I should do.  He told me  to take the nails out, and put in long screws.  I tried one, and it just keeps going around and around, won't tighten.  So the rest of my week, I have been discouraged and try to come up with a solution.  All the stuff up on that shelf has been taken down, and is sitting in the middle of the room.  If I don't come up with a solution, the shelf is unusable and I will have to find another place for the boxes that were up there.  It will be difficult for me to get it down too, the board is about 8 feet long.

When I get discouraged I tend to spend my time reading, and I have read about 9 books.  Two days I read all day long!  I read on my Kindle App and belong to Kindle Unlimited on Amazon.  I read the Winter Black Series by Mary Stone.  Winter Black is an FBI agent whose mother and father were killed by a serial killer when she was 13 but she was left knocked out and in a coma.  Her little brother was taken by the serial killer, and she finds out in the later books her brother is still alive.

Stay At Home Round Robin, Round 2

The main information for this blog hop can be found here at Quilting Gail.

This week, Emily @The Darling Dogwood told us to add plus signs for our second round.

I decided just to add plus signs to my corner squares.  I searched for an interesting print in my stash to put on the sides.  I'm really happy with the way it came out.   That plaid was a mess to get straight.  I think it was printed crooked!

One Monthly Goal, January

Time to link up for One Monthly Goal at Elm Street Quilts.    Many thanks to Patty for this monthly motivation and all she does!

For the first time in a number of months, I finally met my goal for the month.

I set my goal here.  I wanted to make another pillow cover for my daughter Kristen's BD.  I meant to get it done for Christmas but it never happened.  She liked this one I made for the Hello Fall Blog Hop and asked me to make her one.  The cover actually fits a bed sized regular pillow.

This is hers.  I wasn't able to do the acorns for hers as I somehow screwed up the fusible that I had attached to the little bit I had for the acorns and I couldn't pull the paper off.  And when I did, it ripped the loosely woven wool bits apart.    It didn't seem to matter to her.  I did more quilting on hers than I did on mine.

These are both of them together.

Hand Quilt Along, Slow Sunday Stitching

Time to check in again for the Hand Quilt Along.  Three weeks ago, I was here on this Kathy Schmitz One Stitch at a Time Club Stitchery.

I finally was able to finish the piece this week.

Also on the slow stitching front, I finished my project for the Hearts On Fire Blog Hop.  I made a crazy quilt pillow.  I used my Cricut to cut out vinyl to iron on the "Crazy for You on the front, and the piece on the back.

Please check out the other hand quilting and stitching links below.

This week for Slow Sunday Stitching I will be working on another Kathy Schmitz stitchery. I haven't gotten started yet.

I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over there and see what everyone has been doing.  It's my favorite day of the week to check out blogs.

This week after I got my Hearts on Fire Project done, I made this pillow cover for my daughter Kristen whose birthday was Thursday.  She asked for one after she saw mine that I made for the Hello Fall Blog Hop.

My One Monthly Goal for January was to make her one like mine.

I put a zipper in her back.  I  made an envelope opening for mine, but I didn't particularly like it.  I don't like putting zippers in either, but hers looks much better.

Here are both of them together.

I will be linking up with Elm Street Quilts for One Monthly Goal.

Kristen loves sugar cookies, and for her birthday I always make her some for her BD and she was thrilled with both the cookies and the pillow cover.

I have to share what our younger daughter Katie posted about her sister on Instagram for her BD.  I was reading it to John and couldn't read it without crying.

Happy birthday to my beautiful sister Kristen @1kboatwright !💜🦋🌟

Someone who is able to befriend anyone, can talk to anybody. Someone who can tell the full plot of a movie or TV show. An excitable, loving kind, funny, smart, determined and stubborn and wonderful human. An avid reader and you like the extraordinary. You have a large vocabulary and you are an excellent speller of most any word. You can put together a "mean mix" of songs. You probably have the best "staged" sorority laugh in a picture despite never participating in one. 🌟

A wonderful wife, mother, sister, Aunt and sister-in-law. I couldn't have asked God for a better sister you have shown me time and time again but a wonderful person you are and that you do try to believe in the good of others. And you'll prove whoever you can wrong, if needed. 🧐

I love you for it. I love everything about you. I look up to you as my big sister. We could have been Irish twins had we been born 7 months closer but it didn't work out that way.

Thank you for always including me and my family in any activities and allowing me to tag along with your girlfriends.

I will gladly follow behind you, be there for you to get through life with the best sister anybody could ask for! Happy Birthday Kristen Alys! I love you always and forever. 💞💜🦋.

Stay at Home Round Robin, Round 1

The main information for this blog hop can be found here at Quilting Gail.

For the first round of this SAHRR, Chrisknits chose a piano keys as the first round.

The block I chose as the center was an orphan block that has been hanging around for a long time wondering what was going to happen to it.  I took a class back in the late 90's with Jenna Kimball.  I never made anymore blocks, not that I don't love applique, but it always got tossed back in the unfinished pile.

I have tons, and tons, and tons of scraps I have cut up into strips, and I searched for some that were Civil War type fabrics and began sewing them together.

Hearts on Fire Blog Hop, My Day

The Hearts on Fire Blog Hop started yesterday and so many great projects I have seen the past two days!  If you haven't had a chance to visit anyone yet, the schedule for the whole hop is below.

When Carol @Just Let Me Quilt announced this blog hop, making something with hearts, any color but red, I knew just what I wanted to do.

I am also a crazy quilter, and haven't been doing much of that lately, and wanted to make a crazy quilt heart pillow.  As my favorite colors are blue and turquoise those colors would be used.

My husband got me a Cricut for my birthday last year, and I have been wanting to put that to more use than just what I did at Christmas.

I first found a sort of wonky heart I liked and cut it out with card stock on the Cricut.

I transferred the heart to a piece of muslin I was going to be crazy piecing onto.  I used an image of my husband for 45 years,  my soulmate and love of my life for 48 years.  I also like to put a piece of batting on the back to make it firmer for the stitches to come.

I started piecing it, and then thought maybe it would be a good idea to put the heart on the back so I would know how far I needed to piece.

After I finished piecing the whole heart, I couldn't see it anymore on the front, so I turned it to the backside and stitched 1/4 inch out from that image of the heart.

I wanted to cut on "Crazy For You" out of iron-on vinyl on the Cricut, and I spent 2 days browsing fonts, but finally made a choice.  Later after I ironed this on, I found an SVG file that said the same thing, but kept the same one.  I cut out the heart on this piece of fabric so I could attach my crazy pieced heart in the middle.

I had set the heart I cut out on the backing, and I got to thinking maybe I wanted to add some words to that too and add it to the back of the cushion.

Went to get more iron-on vinyl, and browsed SVGs for another afternoon, and finally found one I loved.

I assembled the pillow.  I found some really funky lace trim in my stash I think my friend Cathy @Crazy by Design sent me last year when I was working on a project last year.  I thought it was perfect for this project.

When I was quilting the front, I had quilted a heart around the Crazy For You part.  I decided it needed more quilting and decided to quilt some pebbles.

That is my project, and many thanks to Carol @Just Let Me Quilt for this fun hop!  Be sure and visit the others below and see their lovely projects!
