Show Your Stripes Blog Hop, My Day

Yesterday there were some great projects on the Show Your Stripes Blog Hop. Many thanks to

When I was first contemplating what I would make for this blog hop with stripes, I pulled these fabrics I have with stripes in them. I was first thinking about cutting these up and making star blocks.

Then I pulled my old quilt books out and found this one. I made the sailboat quilt last year in this book, and I have always liked this one with the stripes.

I began to make it, and it fought me every inch of the way. For one thing the pieces of fabric are cut on the bias, and apparently I must have stretched it this way and that stitching it together. By the time I appliqued the stripes on top it was really wonky. I had to really trim it down to make it square.

This is the finished product. I plan to give this for a comfort quilt and I think someone will like it. I used a stripe for the backing, and pieced together a number of stripes for the binding.

I've always loved using stripes in my quilts. This is one I designed and made years ago. I did bluework embroidery on the blocks, and set them in a a crazy quilt like pattern. I also used two of the boats my husband built in the patterns. This one has a wavy, stripe border which I love.
