Hand Quilt Along, Slow Sunday Stitching, Long Post

Three weeks ago I was working on some projects for the I'm Falling For You Blog Hop, which I finished.

ek, in one of my Cricut classes I cut out this pop-up card for my step-daughter Dawn.

I also made her this pillow cover.  This pattern was from a quilt along last year with Partner's in Design and was designed by The Inquiring Quilter.    Dawn likes sea turtles I found out several months ago.  And I found the perfect fabric for the back.

Check in on what everyone else has been doing in the Hand Quilt Along below.

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

What I will be working on this Sunday for Slow Sunday Stitching will be this quilt for the quilt guild.  Someone else made it.  They had bags of quilts that just needed the binding on.  So I am going to sew the binding on and hand sew it down.

Be sure and check in at Kathy Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

Today is my grandson Keaton's BD.  We are celebrating Sunday night at Spaghetti Factory as today he had a soccer game and tonight is his prom.  He has always been such a handsome guy, and I love him to pieces, like I do all of my grandchildren.

His dad took him to Universal Studios this week and he got a Harry Potter sweatshirt.

I had a tough time this morning looking through old pictures, and missing my John.  I cried most of the morning. I think my problem is that my birthday is coming up and it will be the first time in 49 years I will not be with him.    Around lunchtime daughter Katie came over and we looked through more photos.

That top picture was our reception and I was 25, but I sure looked like a baby!

I have something weird to admit.  Back in March I made this little wall hanging.  I was searching around on all my walls for someplace to hang it because all of the walls in my house are full.  I usually rotate things on the walls.  I finally hung it up on the wall right beside John's hospital bed.  He would usually tell me once he really liked things.  But this quilt he kept looking over at it, and would tell me how much he liked it.

He told me, "You always did like quilts with blackbirds in them".  Since he died I have been seeing blackbirds all over the place.  I have seen one sitting on the streetlight out in front of my house.  I have seen one in the middle of the street up from my house.  I have seen numbers of them all over the place.  My daughter and her husband have too where we didn't before.

Yesterday I was up at Hobby Lobby and when I came back out to my car there in the parking lot were these two blackbirds.  One was eating something off a fast food wrapper.  The other would pull his wing and then snatch the paper away.  Then they would switch and the other one would pull his wing and snatch the paper away.

I guess I'd better end this, before I get anymore gruesome.  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I don't think you're gruesome at all! I'm glad you can share how you're doing with your quilty village. I like quilt designs with blackbirds on them, too - in fact, I hung a little one up here the other day - it has a blackbird sitting on a pumpkin. The card and pillow cover you made for your stepdaughter are just great! They sound perfect for her. Enjoy your binding sewing today, Karrin!

  3. The first year of milestones without someone we love is the hardest. My dad died 3.5 years ago and I still miss him. We celebrate his birthday and Father's Day by going out for ice cream--his favourite flavour was black cherry so that's what I have. Lovely pictures of the two of you.
I really like your pumpkin that you knitted. I will have to look to see if you linked to the pattern.
    Enjoy your hand stitching today.

  4. The fabrics you chose for the front and back of the sea turtles pillow cover are amazing. That turtle looks real! You do look sooooo young in your reception photo; the trend continues, you don’t look like you could be more than mid 50’s now!

  6. I agree with Dianne. Memories and seeing all those birds do mean something. For me it is butterflies and they remind me of a couple of people which always brings a smile to my face. That quilt is perfect for your step daughter. I love it. I hope you have relaxing day of stitching that binding.

  7. Such a lovely post, Karrin. You brought me to tears. It is amazing to see "signs" of our loved ones as we go about our daily life. Those signs bring back fond memories and makes one feel so close to sweet loved one. Love your blackbird quilt.Have a wonderful week, dear. Sending you hugs.

  10. Hi Karrin, late at night I m just reading your post…this is a great one. So many pretty projects. H. B. To your handsome grandson. Where do the years go! Loved those photos of you yes looking like a very young girl. I got a shiver reading about the blackbirds. I kind of believe in that sort of thing. We are all connected in the universe present and past, and sometimes we notice the signs of that.
