This past week we had a 5th Wednesday, and for our guild, that means that we meet at a local church from 9-2 and sew, either quilt quilts that we have pin-basted or work on tops. For me and my co-chair of Community Service, Cathy, we have a bunch of stuff to tote to the church, the quilts, extension cords, thread, ironing boards, table risers, cutting mats and rulers and rotatory cutters. Plus we have a potluck lunch. I had spent the previous couple of days cutting out pieces for a potato chip quilt top, plus cutting out 8 blocks for my Stay at Home Round Robin. I had chosen a 9 inch block called Wandering Star from the Quilter's Cache website. Since my quilt top will be going to our Community Service I felt I could work on it at workday. I haven't sewn any of the blocks together yet, I am waiting till next week's prompt to see if I want to add sashing between them.

This was our workday. We pull the tables to the edges of the room as that is where the power outlets are. We don't want anyone tripping on cords. There are a few tables that aren't shown in this picture though. We had a good turnout and an excellent potluck.
Friday I had the privilege of attending my youngest granddaughter Klara's Battle of the Books event at her school. There are 6 teams that have read a number of books during the year, and they are asked questions about the books. They have a buzzer to push if they know the answer. Two teams will be asked questions, and then one member from each team will go and try to answer questions. There were a lot of pressing of buzzers before the question had been completed, and a lot of pressing of buzzers for no apparent reason. It was a fun event to attend. I stayed for most of the day, but left when lunchtime came around. Klara's team came in 4th. She was able to answer quite a few questions correctly herself.
This week I have been working on getting a lot of projects done, and have a lot of handwork for Slow Stitching Sunday.
I need to sew the binding down on Woven Wreaths. Our quilt show this year is Red and White quilts and I am going to enter this.
I am also appliquing a small piece, I just started.
One of my granddaughter Kyleigh's best friends is getting married in April. I got her a table cloth and napkins, but am making this Dresden Plate table topper, I just need to sew down the edges of the backing to the front.
I found this Nancy's Notions kit I had bought probably 20+ years ago, and decided it would be perfect. I keep coming across it, and it jumped out at me to make. You could make coasters too, but I cut out another table topper for me that I plan to take to a retreat the end of February.
Kyleigh is giving Madilyn her wedding shower which I am invited to. I found this towel kit in my stash too which I plan to stitch up. It is all prepped and ready to go.
Madilyn lives in Florida, so it is appropriate. I plan to link up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.
The Hand Quilt Along links are below, and welcome to Laura for joining us!

I love the sound of a Battle of the Books event. It does sound fun, and informative. Your Woven Wreaths looks lovely. Another kit you've had for a while to be done. The bride&to-be will love her Dresden table topper.
ReplyDeleteI really like your redwork quilt, I hope you win a ribbon! The table topper is very pretty and the embroidered towel looks like a fun project, happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteAnything to encourage reading is great! Sounds like fun! I love your red and white quilt. Cute tea towel. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteYou had a fun and creative week, Karrin! I love those times when I can finish several projects and clear my work area!
ReplyDeleteI am so smitten with your Woven Wreaths... I love it! I started mine last year in blue and it is MIA! I do hope I find it and that it turns out as pretty as yours! Thank you for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the welcome, Karrin! I absolutely love your red and white quilt! The book event sounds fun...I wish there was such an event at my grandson's school, he is a voracious reader! Workdays take a lot of effort (like retreats) but so very worth it! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of battle of the books! Great fun. Lovely Dresden plate topper. I'm a bit obsessed with all things Dresden at the moment. And I love your redwork!
ReplyDeleteYour guild work day sounds like a lot of fun, Karrin! Hope you got lots done. I love the blocks and colors you're using for the SAHRR! Your Woven Wreaths is gorgeous, too. I haven't finished mine completely yet - it's quilted, but not bound. Time to get that done!
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful projects in the works. Loved reading about the reading challenge at school. 4 of my daughters started a book club (asked me to join) and we are on our 3rd book. 2 of my granddaughters just joined :) It's going to be fun. My mother was a librarian and reading/books was her passion. I wish she had lived for this day. Madilyns shower gift as just perfect and I know she will cherish them.
ReplyDeleteI love hand made gifts for showers. You've been busy! I like the blocks for your Stay at Home Round Robin. Woven Wreaths looks beautiful.
