Slow Sunday Stitching

It was a busy week, starting last Sunday with a quilt show of a neighboring guild.  There were some gorgeous quilts, especially some of the miniature quilts.

On the back of this Dear Jane quilt were tiny columns of handwriting.  There was a column describing Jane Stickle and her life and the making of this quilt, a column about Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, The Gettysburg Address, The Lyceum Speech and the Lincoln Memorial.   This is the back of Dear Jane.

This week also happened to be the board meetings I attend, the Quilt guild as part of Community Service, and I am the Sunshine Committee for our Begonia Guild.  It was raining so hard Tuesday night that we postponed our meeting till Wednesday.

This week I finished the tea towel I was stitching for Madilyn's wedding shower, Kyleigh's friend.

I put together my blocks for the SAHRR and make 4 star blocks for the prompt this week.

I have also been getting things ready to take to a quilt camp with me.  I have never made a quilt for my bed.  I started one years ago, with a lighthouse panel.  Years ago I as in a Yahoo Group of quilters.  When it was our birthday we got to request the other members to make our choice of block.  I chose a sailboat block, and encircled the lighthouse block.  My plan has always been to have the next round be Storm at Sea.  I originally cut them out with rotary cutter and they weren't going together right.  They were all wonky.

When I got my Accuquilt, one of the first dies I purchased was Storm at Sea.  I think I need 24 blocks.  I have gone to 2 quilt camps and have not had the right amount of pieces cut out.  I have 6 blocks done, and parts of others.  This week I think I have finally gotten all the pieces cut out.

Also this week I have been reorganizing my sewing room.  Daughter Katie recently gave me a chest of drawers that John had made one of the grandchildren.  Two of the drawers were broken.  The husband of one of my guild members kindly fixed them for me and I moved it in my sewing room, and started going through projects, and fabric etc.  I have a bunch of unwanted fabric I am giving to the guild for our Second Time Around Shop at our Guild Show.

What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching will be this applique piece I am working on.

I'll be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Karrin, I'm amazed you have never made a quilt for your bed. Why am I amazed!! Because as long as I've been visiting you, you have made so many gorgeous quilts. Those sailboat blocks look fabulous sailing around the lighthouse panel. Hopefully, all the Storm at Sea blocks will be added soon. This is going to be a splendid quilt. What an amazing gallery of quilts at the quilt show. All are impressive, aren't they. The tea towel is a lovely finish.

  7. Thank you for sharing the guild show photographs, Karrin. The blue star quilt in the last group of guild photographs is a great one for showing how to turn a smaller square block into a larger rectangular quilt!
    What a fun tea towel.
I love the applique flowers in your last block, including the colors you chose to use together.
