Happy Easter, Slow Sunday Stitching

Happy Easter!

 

Happy Easter everyone!  Hope you have a great day.  I will be getting together with my family tonight for dinner at my oldest daughter's house with what family is in town.

Currently granddaughter Kyleigh and boyfriend are in France We found out they became engaged yesterday at Chateau Villandry in Tours, France!   We are all so excited and can't wait till they get back home.  Don't they look happy!

This week was another busy one, getting ready for workday at my house, and getting ready for a day quilt retreat Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at a neighboring town.  We leave our stuff a Veteran's Hall overnight and come home for the night.  

There were 2 rooms, my was the one less occupied.  I was up at the front near the kitchen and eh snacks, which wasn't necessarily a good thing.  I don't snack at home generally but when the snack table is 6 feet away it is hard to resist, particularly the homemade toffee and the guacamole and chips!

I think we had a larger attendance the last time I went, but because of Easter I think attendance was down a bit.  

I finished up granddaughter Klara's sloth wall hanging.  I had started it for her birthday in October, but then my embroidery machine needed a spa day in the middle of embroidering the one of the sloths on.  Klara picked out the phrase "It's temporary" to put on it.  I plan to give it to her for Easter.  

The majority of the time at the day camp I worked grandson Keaton's graduation quilt.  This is Kyleigh's baby brother.  He graduates from high school in a couple of months.  He will be attending college in Salem, West Virginia.

I decided to print pictures of the family dogs, and incorporate them into wonky star blocks.  In between the blocks there will be plain blue blacks.  I got out a bunch of my flannels/plaids/homespuns.  I figured it would be great for the colder weather he will be heading back into.    Keaton always wanted a pug.  They have 3 other dogs in the family.  His parents told him when his brother went off to college and he was the only one home that he could get a pug.  This is Rigby, AKA Piggy as he runs around and eats everyone's food.  

I worked some more on my Storm at Sea Blocks.  I need 24 of these, and have 6 completed.  These will go on my person lighthouse quilt.  Every retreat I work on them, and I still don't have enough components, but am getting there.  I could do 2 sides of these diamonds, but don't have the other sides cut out somehow.  

Every year our guild has a block of the month, and this year, it was a do-it-yourself landscape block of the month.  Each month you would add another component.  This was one of our member's landscape wall hanging and it was amazing.  

Lastly I practiced my free-motion quilting, getting ready to work on my Hospital Sketches quilt.  This is entered in our May quilt show and I need to get going on it.   I got some suggestions and pep talk on how to quilt it by Lesha, the woman that quilted my Ella Maria Deacon

This was a couple of hours of practice before day camp ended.  

For Slow Sunday Stitching I will continue working on Ella Maria Deacon.  I have 2 sides left to sew down.

Slow Sunday Stitching, Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to those who celebrate!  I plan to celebrate with my family.  Grandson Jaeger is still at college in New Mexico.  

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted.  The week before last was a really busy one.  On Wednesday was our Community Service 5th Wednesday workday.  We quilt quilts, or piece quilts.  I actually had a couple of community service projects to work on.  Someone had turned in some jar blocks.  I had cut a bunch of black scraps up into 2.5 inch squares and used those as sashing between blocks.    I need to figure out the sashing between the rows, so I got this far.  

Another project I was working on was some Sunbonnet Sue blocks donated by the daughter of one of our members who recently passed away.  All the Sunbonnet Sue blocks had been prepped already and were ready to stitch down.  I cut out some new backing as the ones that I received seem to be stained.  So at workday I started machine stitching them down.

Right after workday I headed over to our quilt guild's Day Camp and ended up finishing the stitching on Sunbonnet Sue.  I need to find some 30's fabric in my stash and assemble the quilt.

Also at Day Camp I worked on From My Carolina Home's  Scrap Dance Quadrille Mystery.  I am caught up until the next clue comes out next week I think.  

My first day camp was a lot of fun.  It was from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. each night.   First night was potluck, and the rest of the nights dinner was provided.  By the time I came home Saturday evening I was too tired to blog, and didn't put my stuff away till the next day.

Last week I worked on a couple of projects.  My daughter Kristen saw my Think Spring pillow, and wanted one.  Daughter Katie wanted one too, but a wall hanging instead.  

I found this cute fabric in my stash.  

I also made this table topper for a friend's daughter whose birthday is coming up.  Her daughter is very minimalistic, but likes rocks and sea gulls.  So I found a picture of seagull in a coloring page, and came up with this.  I worked on this at Day Camp also.

The last day of Day Camp, there was a craft fair across the street, and I purchased this Easter gnome, I just couldn't resist.  

At Day Camp, and at home this week I have been working on finishing the quilting on my Father Christmas.  I have 2-1/2 blocks more to go plus the border.  Our quilt show starts the 21st.  

This week's slow stitching finally finished this Kathy Schmitz design I probably started last year.  It feels great to have it finally finished.  

My slow stitching project this week is to continue working on this Kathy Schmitz piece.

Happy Blessed Easter, Slow Sunday Stitching, Long Post

 

Happy Easter everyone, hope you have a blessed Easter!   We are going to have dinner at daughter Kristen's house.  I will be making cheesy potatoes and deviled eggs to go with the ham.  I look forward to seeing everyone.

For Slow Sunday Stitching this week, again I will be working on this Kathy Schmitz stitching.  Last week, I got caught up in getting my quilt guild entries ready, sewing sleeves on the back of a couple of quilts, and sewing the paper name tags on.

Saturday evening as I was looking through the TV to find something to watch, I came across Camelot.  When I was 13, for Christmas I got a record player and my father got me the soundtrack to Camelot, Sound of Music and South Pacific.    So when I put on Camelot, it was like old home week.  I now the lyrics to every song!  It has been so wonderful to hear these tunes again, although I forgot how sad it was.

Off and on this week we have had some much needed rain.  But I did get out and was able to get one of my garden beds weeded, plus it was time to cut my Naked Lady vegetation back as it was dying back.  I almost completely filled up my green garbage can.  

I was able to clear things out so the foxgloves have room to grow now.  

This week I was also able to put together the blue and yellow 5" blocks my guild passed out at the last meeting in our support for Ukraine.  

I also quilted this guild quilt.  I decided to leave it as it was, and quilted it and bound it.  So it is ready for the May meeting.  

I also pieced this quilt top.  It will be one of my contributions of the Hands2Help this year.  

Daughter Kristen asked if I had any more Star Wars fabric leftover.  She requested I make a mug rug SIL Jeff.  I just had bits and pieces and this is what I came up with, pretty simplistic.  

Daughter Katie asked that I make Klara a bowl cozy of her own.  She is the one that uses it the most in her house.   So I made this.  She loves purple.  

I also pieced this small quilt top for Hands2Help.  I made sure the parts were in the proper place this time.  

This week on Facebook, I discovered my name had been chosen by two of my long time Crazy Quilting to have their CQ block embellished by them.  I just needed to piece a block.  So I got out my CQ fabrics and made a big mess in my sewing room.  These are the two blocks I pieced.  

I have been keeping busy this week, to keep from reflecting on this time a year ago, when I brought John home from the hospital.  Kristen asked me this week to send her some pictures of John on the boats he built, and our boating adventures.   Every time I look  through old pictures I keep coming across this one of John back in the 70's.   Whenever we went to a hospital function and they had dancing, John would be out on the floor dancing.  All the women wanted to dance with him as he was really good and I was a crappy dancer.  My mother told me I had no rhythm, and I took her words to heart.  But anyway this picture was John at one of the functions our hospital had, out dancing away.  I had this picture in my mind the other day while I was sewing, and a Bee Gees tune came on my Pandora playlist just at that moment.  That was generally what he was dancing to back in the early 70s, Saturday Night Fever.   Sometimes I think John is messing with me.  

This week coming up is a busy one.  Our guild is having its show this weekend.  I am helping people check in their quilts on Thursday night, and am working several hours on Friday.  Then Saturday is our neighborhood garage sale, so I need to get my items together, and priced.  I am going through the house and downsizing a lot.  Plus we have stuff in the garage we unloaded from our motor home that I no longer need.  It is doubtful I will get much sewing, other than hand sewing this week.

Happy Easter, Slow Sunday Stitching

Happy Easter everyone.  My two daughters and their families are due to come over in a couple of hours for Easter Brunch.  

While I'm waiting for the Hot Cross Buns to bake, thought I would show my Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's Quilts.

Earlier week, I found myself without prepped applique work, so I was able to finish off this next nursery rhyme redwork block.  Simple Simon.  I don't remember ever hearing the last three verses. 

Simple Simon met a pieman,

Going to the fair;

Says Simple Simon to the pieman,

Let me taste your ware.

Says the pieman to Simple Simon,

Show me first your penny;

Says Simple Simon to the pieman,

Indeed I have not any.

Simple Simon went a-fishing,

For to catch a whale;

All the water he had got,

Was in his mother's pail.

Simple Simon went to look

If plums grew on a thistle;

He pricked his fingers very much,

Which made poor Simon whistle.^[1]

He went for water in a sieve

But soon it all fell through

And now poor Simple Simon

Bids you all adieu!

I was able finally to prep this last Flourishes block, and I am busy sewing on the berries or whatever they are.  There were 32 leaves and 42 circles.
