One Monthly Goal-August

I continue to appreciate this monthly motivation to keep me on task for One Monthly Goal, and I appreciate Patty hosting this @Elm Street Quilts.  Link-ups can be done at that link.

My One Monthly Goal for August was to quilt this top which I made several years ago as a Partners in Design quilt along.  I wanted to quilt this and gift it to daughter Katie whose birthday was the 24th of August.

I did achieve my goal this month, and she she was thrilled with the gift!

Slow Sunday Stitching

It's been another busy week, amid the heat, and fires, and smoke of Northern California.   While we do not have any imminent fires around us, the skies have been brown since last week, there has been ash falling from the sky and smoke so bad I need to wear a mask to mow and water outside.   The nearest fires right now are probably 30-50 miles away.

I've accomplished a lot this week, despite having a migraine a whole day due to the smoke.  This is last week's block for the Pieces From the Past Sewalong by Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps.  This one is called Indiana Star.  It was published in the Kansas  City Star July 21, 1937. 

I also finished two blocks for the QAL by the Sea.  This one was designed by Jennifer Fulton @The  Inquiring Quilter.  

This week's block was designed by April Adams @Janda Bend Quilts.  

I also finished last month's block of Cassandra's Circle BOM by Barbara Brackman @ Civil War Quilts.

I took a picture of all the blocks together and realized the block on the far right, with the purple mulberries was out of character with the rest of the blocks, which are mostly blue.  Hard to see in this poor light.   But I took those purple mulberries off and replaced with some blue ones.

Lastly I finished the quilting on this fall quilt for my daughter's birthday on Monday.  It was a Partners in Design QAL from 2 years ago.  My daughter loves owls, so I thought this would be perfect for her.

So for Slow Sunday Stitching this week I will be working on a new tea towel.  I finished the chocolate one. 

I got this new transfer pack from Stitchers Revolution. 

I've got this wine one ready to stitch for my sister.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Another busy week has passed.  I have been trying to get caught up on the BOMS I have been working on, since I had worked on granddaughter Kyleigh's BD gifts, and had gotten a little behind. 

Kyleigh and her dad made their way back East last week, stopping in Yellowstone and various other places along the way. 

My other 4 grandchildren have started virtual school this past week.  The two older boys are Kyleigh's brothers Keaton and Jaeger.  Keaton has been watching his two younger cousins this summer.  This was the first day of school picture this year.  

So this week I started and completed this Kathy Schmitz stitchery from the One Stitch at a Time Club.  I really like the way this one came out. 

I also finished the last block from Pieces from the Past Sew Along by Melva @Melva Loves Scraps.  These are blocks originally from the Kansas City Star.  Melva got special permission from C&T Publishing her to share these blocks with us.  This is called the Russian Sunflower.  

This week for Slow Sunday Stitching @ Kathy's Quilts I plan to work on last month's Cassandra's Circle block, the Wild Rose.   Right now I just have the stems down, and the center flower.

Next up, will be finishing up this tea towel.  I set it aside before.  This is the second time I have made this design.  It will be for my sister for Christmas.

HQAL, Slow Sunday Stitching

Another three weeks have passed, and time to check in again for the Hand Quilt Along.  Last time, I was just starting the embroidery from Kathy Schmitz's One Stitch at a Time Club.  I did finish that project.

I also worked on and completed two gifts for granddaughter Kyleigh's 20th BD in a couple of weeks.  She headed back to college this weekend, and I wanted to celebrate with her before she left.  She is a 3rd year nursing student, and she will be one of the groups allowed back to do their clinical.

Anyway, I made her a memory book, with family pictures and little words of wisdom, and memories. 

I also made her a mini wall hanging.  She admired the one I had made.  This is my own design. 

Kyleigh loved  both projects, and I received a beautiful thank you note in the mail today.  She also got her braces off before she left!

So after I finished those projects, I have been working to get caught up on the BOM's I'm working on before August blocks come out.

First was a private BOM I am participating in.  It is a Christmas theme.

Next I finished July's Ella Maria Deacon blocks.  This is offered through Sentimental Stitches.

Also this week, the QAL by the Sea quilt along started.   This is offered by Partner's in Design.   This week's block was by Pretty Piney Quilts.     I love ocean-themed anything, so I had to join this one. 

What I will be doing for my Slow Sunday Stitching this week is working on this month's Kathy Schmitz's stitchery  "Be Kind". 

I also need to prep last week's Pieces from the Past block from Melva Loves Scraps.  It is an English Paper Pieced project this time.

One Monthly Goal-August

Well I have not made my goal two months in a row, which was to finish my own bed quilt into king sized.  I seem to have a mental block on this one, or I have had too much going on recently.

So for August I plan to move on, what I would like to do is quilt this Fall Into a QAL, a BOM that was offered by Partners in Design several years ago.   I'm going to give it to my daughter for her BD the end of August.

350 Blocks Project

The goal for June was 31 blocks, and I did the equivalent of 32 blocks.

Holly Baskets:  I counted this as 9 blocks, counting the center as 1, and the pieced borders as 8.

2)  Kyleigh's BD miniquilt   1 block.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Another week has flown by!  I have been exclusively working on two projects for my granddaughter Kyleigh's birthday.  Her birthday is the 17th of August, but she is leaving the end of the next week to head back east to college.  I wanted to celebrate with her before she leaves, so she is coming over on Monday for lunch and our private celebration of her birthday.  It is the first birthday she has been away from family.  We will miss her!

I have been wanting to do a memory book/words of wisdom book for her for a long time, and I'm glad I finally had a chance to do it.  I have been using my new Cricut to cut out letters, and have had a few goof ups on my part, such as putting the transfer tape on the wrong way, and having my cutouts unusable.  I still have another day, hopefully I can do it right.

Here are a few pages of her book.  I took her to Monterrey for a few days after she graduated from high school.

This is the cutout I have goofed up twice. 

The other thing I have been working on, is a mini wall hanging she admired of mine,  and wanted me to make her one.

I just need to quilt the sky and the borders.   It is my own design, although the quote I saw somewhere, but no author was noted.

What I will be working on for my Slow Sunday Stitching is another one of these tea towels.  The chocolate one by Stitcher's Revolution.   I'll also be getting some applique ready for slow stitching next week.
