Slow Sunday Stitching

This was a relatively non-busy week, with the exception of basting day. I had plenty of time to finish up quilting my Father Christmas quilt. This is one of my entries in our quilt guild show which starts this next Friday. I am pretty pleased with the way it came out. I just need to make a label and it will be ready.

I extensively quilt it, and at times my shoulder and back and neck started cramping up on me. This was a 1995 BOM by Laurene Sinema called Father Christmas. She was the founder of Arizona Quilter's Guild. For 25 years she owned the Quilted Apple Shop in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1998 I went to a quilt convention in Phoenix and met Susan Nixon @Desertsky Quilts. I bought one or two of the above BOM, and then when I got home I asked Susan if she would go get the rest of them for me. I started this around 1999 with the guy up in the right hand corner, and he hung around my sewing room lonely until around 2018 when I started working on a few blocks at a time. I finally completed the top in 2020. Now it is finally finished, I am thrilled!

With all of our "atmospheric river" storms recently my yard was a mess, especially the back yard. I was finally able to get out and mow the lawn. It took two days to do this much weeding and mowing. I still need to weed my flower beds and put vegetation killer in my front sections that I had redone last fall. Apparently the guys that took out my grass didn't put black plastic under the bark, and I have crabgrass coming up all over the place.

This is the side yard, that dandelion in the corner was almost 5' tall and had to be cut with a branch cutter.

This was where John used to build his boats and is undeveloped.

After pictures, looks a lot better.

I have a lot of nice flowers blooming including the wisteria.

I mistakenly called this peony before, but it is a Ranunculus. My peonies haven't bloomed yet and it will be awhile as they frozen late last year.

The other thing I have been doing is working on Missouri Star's block of the month.

I am trying to get the first month done as I received month two on Saturday.

I apparently wasn't paying attention and did this.

That section on the right bottom, should be going in like the left side. I got it straightened out, but decided it was probably time to stop for the night.

What I will be working on this week for Slow Sunday Stitching will be my Gnome block of month. The one on the left needs a few finishing touches, and then will finish up the one on the right. This week will be a particularly busy one. Tuesday night is our Begonia Society meeting, and it is my month to bring refreshments. Wednesday is our guild meeting. Thursday I will be working to help set up our quilt show. Friday and Saturday I am also working at the show, and takedown Saturday evening.

ScrapHappy April

It’s time for showing off our scrap projects! ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, jewelry, dolls, socks or a sculpture. Anything made of scraps is eligible. Welcome to Lynn and Tierney!

I continue working on Winter Blues by Bonnie Hunter. Last month I was at this point, I hadn't gotten the two halves together yet.

I have the main part together now. This will be a wedding gift for a friend's daughter who is getting married in September.

The next step is piecing the borders. First I need to cut 276 blue 1.5 x 6.5 inch rectangles. I have these blue scrap piles to go through.

Slow Sunday Stitching, Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to those who celebrate! I plan to celebrate with my family. Grandson Jaeger is still at college in New Mexico.

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted. The week before last was a really busy one. On Wednesday was our Community Service 5th Wednesday workday. We quilt quilts, or piece quilts. I actually had a couple of community service projects to work on. Someone had turned in some jar blocks. I had cut a bunch of black scraps up into 2.5 inch squares and used those as sashing between blocks. I need to figure out the sashing between the rows, so I got this far.

Another project I was working on was some Sunbonnet Sue blocks donated by the daughter of one of our members who recently passed away. All the Sunbonnet Sue blocks had been prepped already and were ready to stitch down. I cut out some new backing as the ones that I received seem to be stained. So at workday I started machine stitching them down.

Right after workday I headed over to our quilt guild's Day Camp and ended up finishing the stitching on Sunbonnet Sue. I need to find some 30's fabric in my stash and assemble the quilt.

Also at Day Camp I worked on From My Carolina Home's Scrap Dance Quadrille Mystery. I am caught up until the next clue comes out next week I think.

My first day camp was a lot of fun. It was from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. each night. First night was potluck, and the rest of the nights dinner was provided. By the time I came home Saturday evening I was too tired to blog, and didn't put my stuff away till the next day.

Last week I worked on a couple of projects. My daughter Kristen saw my Think Spring pillow, and wanted one. Daughter Katie wanted one too, but a wall hanging instead.

I found this cute fabric in my stash.

I also made this table topper for a friend's daughter whose birthday is coming up. Her daughter is very minimalistic, but likes rocks and sea gulls. So I found a picture of seagull in a coloring page, and came up with this. I worked on this at Day Camp also.

The last day of Day Camp, there was a craft fair across the street, and I purchased this Easter gnome, I just couldn't resist.

At Day Camp, and at home this week I have been working on finishing the quilting on my Father Christmas. I have 2-1/2 blocks more to go plus the border. Our quilt show starts the 21st.

This week's slow stitching finally finished this Kathy Schmitz design I probably started last year. It feels great to have it finally finished.

My slow stitching project this week is to continue working on this Kathy Schmitz piece.
