Slow Sunday Stitching

Well I am writing this tonight wounded.  I went to the ER late this afternoon with a rotary cutter wound.  I had been cutting something this afternoon and my ruler slipped and I cut my left index finger.  After I soaked through 4 Band Aids and dripped blood down the hall soaking through the Band Aid and onto the sofa, I decided maybe I needed stitches and took myself to the ER.  I was amazed, I was in and out within an hour.  Apparently they triage wounds and injuries into another section and it went really quick.  They numbed my finger and put in 5 stitches.  I am having to type the letters I usually type with my index finger with my middle finger.  Of course I had to wait until my fingers weren't numb anymore.

This week was not too busy, so I tried to spend some time working in the yard early in the morning as we have been in 100's again.   Again I have the Amaranth growing in two different places,  including out of the brick patio.

The trumpet vine is attracting the hummingbirds and also nicely shades my kitchen window so it doesn't get so much afternoon heat.

This week I was also able to finish quilting the guild community quilt I started quilting on 5th Wednesday workday.

This week I have felt like my deceased relatives have encouraged me to do certain things.  I felt like John encouraged me to watch the newest James Bond movie, No Time to Die.  He loved the James Bond movies.

I also felt like John's mother was encouraging me to hand quilt one of my quilt tops.  I only have hand quilted I think 3 small quilts, the largest of which took me about 20 years to finish, mainly because I kept setting it aside and forgetting about it.

This week's guild activity was pin basting at the Community Center which is across the street from my house.  You can reserve a place for your personal quilt, or we are pin basting community quilters.  So I reserved a place for my small quilt, which is a reproduction of an antique block.

This is a closeup of one of the sunflower blocks.

This is what I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching.  I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over and check out what everyone is working on.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I LOVE your little quilt, it's beautiful! I've never wounded myself that badly with the rotary cutter but I do admit to some nicks! They really bleed! Happy quilting!

  2. Ouch! I cut my finger with my rotary cutter a few years ago and had to have stitches! The doctor commented that it was a very clean cut and easy to stitch…
Enjoy your slow stitching today. Hope your bandaged finger does not hinder your sewing too much.

  3. That is a big ouch!!!! They did a great job and only kept you there 90 minutes! Sorry that happened, the other day I dropped mine but it missed my leg and hit the floor! Lesson learned for me - close it up when you finish doing a cut! (I am bad at leaving them open)

Love the flowers, and listening to those who are no longer with us. Your finished guild quilt is pretty and the hand quilting will be pretty. Sunflowers are pretty!

    Have a great week!

  4. ouch your poor finger - 5 stitches - I almost went in for stitches once for a cut with the blade but finally managed to pull it tight enough and stopped the bleeding - hope it heals fast. Yes with this heat all we can do is be outside early or late!

  5. Oh no, on the rotary cutter injury! So glad it didn't take long to get in and out of the ER. I think John and his mom are watching over you, too. Enjoy your hand quilting this week, Karrin!

  12. Oh I hope your finger heals quickly. I have always been wary of my rotary cutter as I am clumsy that way. The flowers are very pretty in your yard. Try to stay cool. I hope you are able to work on hand quilting that beautiful sunflower piece.

  13. Good luck with that finger healing! It only takes a little slip doesn't it? Are you listening to the message to hand quilt that piece?

  14. I just adore that sunflower block and the stitching on it too. Also isn't that Amaranth plant stunning.
Jeepers, so it isn't just me with the little mishaps. You are lucky to get in and out at emerg like that...maybe their motto is if it bleeds it leads like the newspapers used to say. And now take care with it. One thing I'm noting is I don't seem to heal like I used to. Take care now.

  15. Oh no Karrin! Hope your finger heals soon. And that you are feeling well. Rotary Cutter is dangerous.
I like the quilt you quilted for the guild community quilt community and also the sunflowers.
