HQAL, Slow Sunday Stitching

Last week I didn't have many activities, so it was nice to take it easy for once.  Last week I joined a local singing group at the Community Center across the street from me.   They perform at local nursing homes etc.   They haven't been meeting for several months.    I haven't sung in a choir in quite a while, and my voice has changed from what it used to be.  I used to sing soprano and alto, but now it is more like alto and tenor.  The songs they are singing are from the 20's and 30's and so I am learning new material.  A few I know such as "Tale as Old as Time", "America" and "On a Clear Day".  It is a fun activity.  I have to say we aren't too good right now, we seem to be all over the place.  One of the guild members told us about it, actually the Chair of Community Services, so I decided to try it out.

We were supposed to have a 5th Wednesday this week for Community Service where we take pin-basted quilts up to a local church.  The guild members come and bring their machines and we spend about 5 hours quilting, or piecing small tops, or make pillow cases for children's hospitals.  We had to cancel it last week as Cathy, the chair of Community Services developed vertigo in the parking lot of the community center the day before after the singing.  She spent half the day in the ER being tested for various things and all her tests were negative.  But she did not feel up to hauling a bunch of totes and things over to the church for 5th Wednesday.

I have been working this week on my project for the Get on Board with Sewing Blog Hop celebrating National Sewing Month.  My day is on Monday.  I spent time quilting my project and sewing the binding down.

I did some not-so exciting yard work and pulling weeds.  My daughter Kristen took me Friday to Costco.  They had gotten some salmon stuffed with crab and thought I would like it.  It was delicious and I have enough for 3 more meals.  I froze the other portions.

Saturday night I enjoyed watching the new Rings of Power, Lord of the Rings movie on Prime.  John would have loved this, and the House of Dragons that comes on Sunday nights.

For Slow Sunday Stitching I will be working on the last of the Peter Rabbit blocks.  This is part of my One Monthly Goal, to complete the Peter Rabbit quilt.  The baby shower is on September 24th.

Check out the other hand quilt along links below.

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head over there and check out what everyone there has been working on also.

This next week will be another busy one.  I have a Board meeting for the guild.  I also have an appointment with my Dr. hopefully to get a shot.  Friday I have my mini meeting with guild members.  I also need to take my begonias down Friday afternoon that I plan to enter at the Begonia Show this weekend.  Somewhere in the meantime I also need to finish the mini begonia quilt I plan to donate at the show.  Daughter Katie and I are working both days at the show, Saturday and Sunday.  I also need to make some potato salad and brownies  for the workers at the show.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I hadn't realize there were two new series from The Lord of the Rings one on Friday and Saturday. I will need to check it out or I might wait until the first seasons are done and binge watch

  4. How fun that you joined the singing group! It sounds like the begonia show will keep you busy, too. Looking forward to seeing your blog hop project - you always make such neat things for those! We enjoyed the Rings of Power episodes, too. All four of us (Mike and our sons and me) are big Lord of the Rings fans. It's fun to enter that world again.

  5. Looking forward to seeing your blog hop project and also the Petter Rabbit quilt.
Great you joined a local singing group, as is said here. Who sings scares away its woes, so enjoy and have fun with this new activity. Hugs

  9. I love salmon and I'm sure I would like it stuffed with crab too. Although crab is not something we see here in the fish area at the supermarket.
