Slow Sunday Stitching

This past week was relatively quiet in social activities, so I got in a lot of sewing time.  I am in 2 blog hops this month, and I have been busy sewing away on my projects.  I am in the midst of quilting my Dust Off a Quilt Book project, and my second project, for Little Green Apples I am machine piecing the units together, and hand stitching the rows together in the evenings.

I am also slowly machine quilting my Father Christmas quilt.  I have entered this one in my guild's quilt show in April.

I was reading a blog somewhere about free motion quilting and wearing gloves.  My quilting gloves are pretty much shot and I was thinking about buying some new ones.  Anyway this blogger talked about cutting a couple of pieces of that rubber shelf liner and using that to grip the quilt.   I always dislike taking the gloves off and on to pull up bobbin thread etc.  I cut a couple of pieces of shelf liner, and it really works, and I love it!  Didn't cost me anthing!

The other thing I have been slowly working on is my SAHRR.   Quilting Gail had the prompt this past week which was pinwheels.  I cut out a bunch of half square triangles with my Accquilt #5 die.

I pulled into my driveway the other day and there was this squirrel.  He just looked at me,  and went about doing whatever he was doing.   I hope it wasn't burying anymore acorns though.

For Slow Sunday Stitching I will continue working on my Little Green Apples Project.

I'll be linking up at Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over and check out what everyone has been working on.

Be sure and stop by Monday for the Dust off a Quilt Book Blog Hop hosted by Bea @Beaquilter.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I don't machine quilt often but have never understood why some wear gloves so far I have seen no reason to.

  4. The Father Christmas quilt is lovely, the rubber shelf liner sounds like a great idea even better if it costs nothing. Have a great week ahead.

  5. Oh, such a nice variety of projects!
I don't wear gloves to FMQ. I've never tried that.
And squirrels...don't get me started...they are prolific around here this year already and digging holes everywhere.

  6. Sadly, my sewing machine doesn't allow me the ability to free motion quilt. I have to get myself another machine sometime soon. I really like your Father Christmas quilt.

  7. That's a neat tip about the shelf liner! I've been using gardening gloves, but I also tired of putting them on and taking them off. Hope you've enjoyed some slow stitching today, Karrin! I'll enjoy seeing what you made for the blog hops!

  8. Looks like a good Sunday project, and plenty to finish. Thanks for the shelf-liner tip. I used to have a link to a lady's videos where she used something she called bats, because it was black and looked kind of like a bat. I used a lot of her tips, but never bought them, and now I can't find her. Maybe these will do just as well!

I wear quilting gloves when I am quilting with my walking foot. I find there is a lot more control of the quilt and less stress on my fingers. I always like to see what you are up to! Take care. Gail at the Cozy Quilter

  10. Shelf liner - what a great tip! I use garden gloves mostly, but sometimes they don't fit that great. I'm surprised the squirrel didn't follow you into your sewing room - lol!
