This past week was spent putting Christmas decorations up. My grandsons helped me get them back in the attic. I was anxious to get them put up as I wanted to refinish my laminate floors. They were getting a little dull. Also I got a new doormat for the front door. I was trying to get it done in one day, the front room, entry and hallways on either side of the house. I worked pretty much from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and I noticed I had stepped in the wet wax with my Birkenstocks and had tracks for about 4 feet. I need to get some more of the wax removal stuff to get the footprints out. But the rest of it looks pretty good.
My new rug fits my nautical decor
After I took my Christmas quilts down, I was looking through my quilts and came across this one. I started quilting in 1994. At my local quilt store, they had a Red Wagon Quilt Club. It was in the fashion of the primitive quilt ladies, Gerry Kimmel, Jan Patek and Linda Brannock. Each month we would get another block. I have never even hung this one up. A friend hand quilted it for me.
The highlight of my week was going with my family to see the new Bob Dylan movie, A Complete Unknown. I loved it and thought it was really good. Both my daughters, granddaughter Kyleigh, grandsons Jaeger, Keaton, and Keaton's girlfriend went.
My husband John used to play the guitar and did plan some Bob Dylan songs, especially "Don't Think Twice".It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If'n you don't know by now
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It'll never do somehow
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm a-traveling on
But don't think twice, it's all right
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right
So it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
Like you never done before
And it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you anymore
I'm a-thinking and a-wonderin' walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child, I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right
So long honey, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say, "Fare thee well"
I ain't a-saying you treated me unkind
You could've done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right
When John sang this song, he would sing it so convincingly and with so much emotion, I was afraid he was ready to walk at the door.
I finally was able to give granddaughter Kyleigh her poncho.
This next week will be a busy one, I have a Begonia Board Meeting, and a Quilt guild board meeting and Friday will be mini-group quilters at my house, so I will need to get ready for that.
I was able to pick up my Bernina from the spa this week. I am looking forward to getting started working on what got interrupted at Christmas when it went wacko. I was doing free standing lace ornaments for Christmas and got about 1/4 way through and broke a needle and then things were not stitching out right. I will have to wait till after mini-group though to work on that as I sew on my kitchen table.
What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching will be either Keaton's beanie or this wool embroidery.
I'll be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.
Another fun excursion with your family, Karrin. A lot of people are saying they've enjoyed this movie. That's a lovely memory you have of your John. Kyleigh's poncho look fabulous on her. It looks very chic. Have a great week. Another busy one, I see.
ReplyDeleteAdore that piece in your header! Wow, you have been busy as always, Karrin. Lovely floors and quilts found to place around. Great photos of the family. I plan of seeing that movie with my grandson. It seems not many know Bob won the Nobel Prize so definitely worthy of a movie.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you Karrin! I just put away the Christmas stuff yesterday too. We have very cold temps here (single digits) so it is a good day to stay home and stitch or quilt in my case. No church today, as DH had a bad spell early this am, and I’m not quite sure what’s up. I think it may have been an electrolyte imbalance, so we’ll see when he wakes up. Every once in awhile his meds seem to mess his system up; its been over a year since the last one, so it was a bit of a surprise at 4am, but I’ve gotten lots done, including FINALLY catching up on everyone’s blogs!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year - I still have a couple things to put away but overall most everything is done. I really need to scrub my kitchen floor I thought of it when you mentioned your floors
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun quilt! Good that you get hang it now!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year. I put all my decorations away yesterday. It was quite nice to go over the house with the hoover and get rid of those pesky pine needles that seem to go everywhere. Love your wool appliqué btw!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I will have to see if that movie is playing near us. A fun family outing for you!
ReplyDeleteLovely wool appliqué project. Sounds like a busy week for you again.
Gail at the cozy quilter
It always feels good to get the Christmas decorations put away and the house back to normal! Your floors look shiny and beautiful. I've been wondering about that movie - sounds like a fun family outing. Kyleigh's poncho looks like it fits perfectly! Enjoy your stitching today, Karrin!
ReplyDeleteYou have very nice projects to choose from! Love the Red wagon quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice that your family live so close to you. I'm planning to see the Bib Dylan movie too, it starts here in another week or too. A,though I was never a particular fan of his music, it will be nice to see about his life. My favourite song if his is I'll give you shelter from the storm.
