Moment of Panic, My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop Continues

I had a moment of panic this morning.  Yesterday I had written my post for the My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop, which continues through September 13th.

I went to check my scheduled post for late tonight and across all of my blog posts is this:

A long time ago, maybe in 2008 or so, I had a graphic design person designed a special header for my blog.  It incorporated one of my crazy quilt pieces that is framed and she designed a theme I love.  I had no idea how she did it, she just designed it and put it on my blog.  Apparently she must have used the above tinypic site, because they are closing up shop and my image disappeared overnight, and all my posts had the above image.

I have tried to salvage the situation this morning, and am not really happy with it, but at least I have that above image off.

Meanwhile the My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop continues.

This is today's list of bloggers.  There are some great projects shown and have given me some inspiration of new things to try.  My day will be tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11th.

Begonias, California Style 2019

This week was the National ABS Convention held in Sacramento, CA September 3-8 with the annual plant sale Saturday, September 7th.

My daughter Katie and I attend every year and buy a bunch of plants and hope that we can get them to survive the winter here in Sacramento.  We browse the plants that have been judged, and see what plants we want to be on the lookout for.  We look forward to it all year, and afterwards we go to a French cafe in Sacramento called Cafe Rolle.  Granddaughter Klara also came with us and spent the day.

This year they had the convention week attached to it, and we came in at the end of the week.  The write ups touted having thousands of plants, but what we saw on Saturday was maybe 200 plants if that.  We surmise that maybe convention goers had first chance, and the public had leftovers, though not at all sure about that.

We still came away with many plants.  I got quite a few that were new starts that were relatively cheap.    I also am going to try a Maidenhair fern again.  I have bought them 2 years in a row, and I keep them for several months and then they dry up.  Going to try a different location this year.  My other 2 ferns thrive, but I am determined to get one of these to live this time!

These are a couple of the new starts that I am going to keep in the house for awhile until they get going good.

This was another one called Begonia Kit Kat.  One of the leaves broke off in the car.  They had a real poor selection of this one.  My daughter grabbed one of them too.

These are a couple of my begonias out front that I have had for several years.  The smaller flowering one I got last year, and also the small reddish one on the right  that is sort of cut off I got last year.  It went through a rough spot over the winter but it is finally coming out of it.

This was a new one I got called Begonia Maiden.  There were several we have never seen before in all the years we have been attending this sale.

This one is called Cancun Christmas.  I love the leaves on Rex begonias so much.  My daughter doesn't have much luck with these but I don't usually have a problem.

And this one is called Merry Christmas.

This one apparently lost its tag somewhere.  So don't know the name of that one.

This one I have had for about 4 years.  It is called Begonia Dragon Wings.  I had another smaller one that didn't survive the winter last year.  When I know a frost is coming I usually just cover them for the night.  I tried bringing them into the kitchen one year, but they didn't like that at all.

This was called Begonia Dicata.  This one and another one this year are from a nursery in southern California, called Kartuz Greenhouses in Vista, California.  I grew up in Vista, CA, and the street this is located on, Sunset  Drive my street ran into.  I don't recall that nursery being their 50 years ago though.  It was interesting that they had plants for sale in Sacramento.

After the sale, and browsing the prize winners in the show, we headed off to Cafe Rolle for a hot prawn sandwich, and I had a Toffee Creme Brulee.   Katie and Klara had the chocolate mousse for dessert.

Such a great day, and so nice to get out of the house for a couple of hours!

HQAL and Slow Sunday Stitching

Three weeks just keep flying by and time to report in again for the Hand Quilt Along.  This week I have spent a lot of time prepping for slow stitching by hand.  I have been working on Sweet Land of Liberty.  I might be able to finish this one today.  I have a bit of fixing to do.  I had ironed my letters onto wool and was going to fuse them and blanket stitch them.  I found last night I had not reversed the letters  before I ironed the fusible on and as I went to cut them out, they are all going the wrong backwards.  I also found that I had not done Victory which is supposed to go on the vase, but had done Liberty twice.   Liberty is supposed to go by on the fish or below the fish.  So I need to straighten those out, stitch the fish and flag, doves and stars down, and the letters once I correct them.

The other hand project I will be working on is the Buhl-Bushong Quilt.  I made 4 of these crown pieces by paper-piecing, which is not my favorite thing to do.  But I wanted my crowns to be pointy.  I'm appliqueing the rest of it together.  I almost have 1 of these together.  I have 3 more crown pieces done and ready to assemble.  Only 60 more to go.

Check out the other hand quilt along links below and see what everyone is up to.

Sew Lets QAL Flimsy

Sew Let's Quilt Along

I completed another flimsy today.  This time it was for the Sew Lets QAL by Partners in Design Facebook Group.

The theme this time was sewing related, and I had a fun time with most of these blocks.  I'd been wanting to do a sewing machine block.  The little quilt on the sewing machine bed I'm going to attach after the top is quilted.  It was from some fabric, I actually hand quilted along the lines in the pattern.  So there is a small quilt sandwich there.

This is the top taken outside without the little quilt pinned to it.

Thanks for stopping by.  I will be linking up with Partners in Design via Pretty Piney Quilts.

One Monthly Goal-September

My goal this month is another crazy quilting project.  It is actually to finish a block for a friend.  In 2014 this friend and I exchanged blocks we had each pieced and sent to the other.  The idea was to embellish the other person's block.  Normally things like this in the crazy quilting world have a time limit, usually a month or two.  In this case, life got in the way for both of us, and we still have the other person's block, and continues to get in the way in regards to helping family.

I set this as my goal one other time, and didn't make it.  But I'm determined to make it this time.  I would really like to finish this in time to send off for her BD in October.   Her parents require her help in all things, and I would like to send it off to let her know I am thinking about her.   And it has to go overseas.   So I really need to get myself going on this.  Really just need to do the embroidery, silk ribbon, and beading.  The basics are already laid down.

So my goal for September is to finish my embellishment and send it off.  Thanks so much Patty for the continued motivation this sets for me!

350 Blocks Project-August Report

I've actually done pretty good this month:

1)  Hospital Sketches BOM: 2 blocks:  I was running late last month, and got this month's done in 3 days:

2)  Buhl-Bushong QAL:  I counted this as 2 blocks, though I did applique 4 flowers for this border.

3)  Sweet Land of Liberty  11 blocks:    I had written down 23, but that looks like 11 blocks to me!

4.  Katie's  CQ mermaid block.  I counted this as 1 block, even though it there was extensive stitching.

5)  Sew Lets QAL:  4 blocks.  The bolt block below was done twice because the tops of the bolts didn't show up too good in the first block.

6.  Kyleigh's sewing bag.    Counted as 1 block.  Stitchery and tutorial by Jenny of Elefantz.

7)  Hexagon table topper.  I won the pattern from Joy @ Days Filled with Joy.  I counted it as 1 block.    I gifted it to a friend with an August BD.  Colors don't look too great in this picture.

8.  One Stitch Club Stitcheries by Kathy Schmitz:    2 blocks

9.    My project for the My Favorite Block Blog Hop, which starts September 9th-13th, hosted by Carla of Creatin in the Sticks.  I've made 51 blocks for this one.  Can't show my project yet.  My day is September 11th.

10)  Nutcracker Suite:  22 blocks, and finished the top.

So I have a total of 97 blocks I will be reporting to Shelly @ Prairie Moon Quilts.

Thanks for stopping by!

Slow Sunday Stitching, Hospital Sketches,

Time again for the link-up for Slow Sunday Stitching @Kathy's Quilts.   I've had a lot of slow stitching going on again this week.

I finished up this month's assignment of the Buhl-Bushong Quilt.  Good thing too, we got the next assignment yesterday early because of the holiday.

I finished this month's assignment of the Hospital Sketches BOM by Barbara Brackman @ Civil War Quilts.  This is the next to last block I will  have to decide on a border pretty soon.

Today I will be working on another of Kathy Schmitz's stitcheries.  I plan to put into a wall hanging for one of my daughters for Christmas.

Today I will also be getting these Father Christmases prepped for applique.  I got the freezer paper templates traced, I need to cut them out and iron them on the fabric I'm going to use.

I'll be linking up to Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.    Hop on over and see what everyone else is doing.

Thanks for stopping by!
