Time In a Bottle Blog Hop, My Day

 


Today is the final day, and my day of the Time in a Bottle Blog Hop, hosted by Carol @ Just Let Me Quilt.  She is one of the three ladies, including Carla @ Creatin in the Sticks and Joan @Moosestash Quilting who come up with the greatest blog hops!  Thanks so much Carol for another wonderful hop.  I have the entire schedule listed below.  

The challenge for this blog hop was to make something with an hourglass block in it.  From the very first, the lyrics of Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle kept going through my mind.  My husband and I loved Jim Croce, and John used to play some of his songs on his guitar.  

This song is still going through my mind.  

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do

So I decided I wanted to have a bottle, with part of the lyrics inside, and put the hourglass blocks around it.

I searched around on the internet for an SVG of a bottle, and a scroll that I could print part of the lyrics on and place inside the bottle, so I could cut them out on my Cricut.

I finally came up with this.  I wanted a darker green for the bottle, but I am trying to work from my stash, so I used what I had.  




I made some tabs up at the top so I could hang it from my FRESH hanger.  



These lyrics to the song are especially meaningful to me this year, as my husband passed away the end of April last year.  We were together 49 years, married 45, and he was the love of my life.   I'll always wish I had just one more day to spend with him.

Slow Sunday Stitching


It has been another whirlwind week for me, with a lot of driving.

Last weekend daughter Katie had an overnight with some friends of hers and she saw these insects at the friend's house.  She went looking for them in the mark down section at 3 Targets with no success.  She wanted 2 bees, a dragonfly or snail.  They are gold painted plaster figures.  I don't know why this was so important, but I volunteered to go to another 2 Targets to look.  I finally found what she wanted at the last Target, and took a picture on my dash.  


Then I drove to the other end of the county to look for bullion fringe for my friend's Boho bag.  I found one of the fringes I was looking for, but ended up ordering the beaded fringe and ribbon fringe online.  

Also this week I had my mini quilt group.  I turned in my little chicken coop block.  This is our mini group project, to make all sorts of house.  I myself  did the chicken coop, a lighthouse and Victorian house.    We are getting this put together in the next  couple of months and will either be an auction quilt for our guild, or a community service project.  

I finished the sewing of my binding on my Time in the Bottle Blog Hop project.  I'll be sharing my project on the 18th next week.  I also worked on this Kathy Schmitz One Stitch at a Time project.  


This is what I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's Quilts.    Head on over and check out what everyone has been working on.  

I finished another Ella Maria Deacon block, and I don't see that I shared the last one I finished.  I think I have 5 blocks left to do, 3 applique and 2 paper pieced, which is not my forte.  



This week I have also been working on my brother and SIL's lighthouse quilt.  They put in a new kitchen floor for me last summer, and their payment is a king-sized lighthouse quilt.  I found this panel in my stash and this will be the center of the quilt.  The blocks I am working on were part of a block of the month I acquired many years ago, and is nowhere near a king size.  So I am  going to use these blocks, the center panel and probably some Storm at Sea blocks.  I will have to have someone else quilt this for me, as my set-up is not big enough to quilt a king sized quilt.

And the two I worked on this week .  I still need to stitch everything down.


This has made me happy this week.  This little orchid has rebloomed recently and has blooms popping out all over the place.  

Daughter Kristen and SIL Jeff invited me dinner at a burger place up the street from me on Saturday.  The conversation drifted to TV shows or movies we were watching.  Jeff mentioned that he was watching Star Trek Discovery.  I told them John liked that show.  Jeff said "I know, John watches TV with me every night".  When the girls got me John's urn for his ashes, they ordered mini urns for each of the girls, and I put some of his ashes in each of them.  Jeff said John's urn sits on the table right next to him!  

Grandson Jaeger is home from college this next week, having arrived late last night.  We have plans for a family dinner tomorrow night at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  

I found this on Facebook yesterday, and thought how wonderful it would be.

Slow Sunday Stitching

I had a less activities this week, so I was able to get a little more accomplished.  

First thing this week, I was able to get the guild community service quilt quilted and bound.  I am glad to have this off my plate.  


I was also able to get the Shoo Fly blocks on my Stay at Home Round Robin.  This was the last round, and it now measures about 59x70.  This will be one of my quilts I am donating to Hands2Help this year, which is being run by The Academic Quilter this year.

I also pieced the components of a crazy quilt Boho Bag for my friend Jandra.  She loves Minnie Mouse and hearts and took a picture of one of her figurines with a backdrop of some heart fabric so I printed it up on some silk fabric and incorporated it into the front flap piece.  



My next steps are to add the embellishments:  Lace, beads, buttons, charms and stitches.  This is what I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching.  I will be linking up with Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's Quilts.  Head on over and check out what everyone has been working on.

Stay at Home Round Robin, Round 6

 


I am a couple of weeks behind on the 6th and last round of the Stay At Home Round Robin which was hosted by Quilting Gail.  You can read all about it here.    Each week one of the co-hosts gave us a different prompt for the border to put on your little quilt.   The sixth round was prompted by Chris @Chrisknits and it was to make Shoo Fly Blocks.

This quilt I intend to donate to Hands2Help this year, and so it measures about 59x70.  It was a windy day yesterday when I finished it.


It was a bittersweet day yesterday when I pieced this last border.  I almost used up two fabrics that I had purchased back when I first started quilting in 1994 or so.   The red was my first quilt, a red and green applique quilt, and the blue was a Brannock/Patek Moda print I have always loved.  I have enough to cut up into scraps of both of these prints now.

One Monthly Goal, March

 


Time to link up again for One Monthly Goal hosted by Patty @Elm Street Quilts.  Many thanks to Patty as I continue to appreciate this monthly motivation to get one project done!

Several months ago at my quilt guild meeting, they had grab bags of coordinated fabric.  These sheets included with the bags of fabric lists items they suggested be made.


These were the fabrics I chose, I love the Fall colors.  We have until May to turn our projects in, but I would like to get my items done so they can go back to the April guild meeting.  I have been tempted to just pay the $5 for the fabric, but no I will make something.  



So my One Monthly Goal will be to make something, or many items with this fabric for my guild's community service or boutique.
