Slow Sunday Stitching

This week was no outside activities for me.  I thought there was a guild board meeting, but it had been cancelled.   My tooth problems are taken care of, but I have had 2 migraines this week.  This is my bad time of year.  

What did happen this week was the start of my landscaping project.  The guys came a day early as we were supposed to have rain on the projected start day.  They were able to work 4 days nevertheless.   They probably have 1 more day to go to finish things up.  We are expected to be having rain a couple of days the beginning of next week though.  

This is out in front of the garage, I had a cinder block garden before, now I have rocks encircling my planned garden, and a tree.  They have to finish connecting up the drip irrigation and spreading out some more bark.  

This is down the side of my yard, I had two nearly dead birch trees and dead grass along this side.  I now have 4 Japanese maples, drip irrigation and bark.  

I had two camellias here, one nearly dead and most of my other stuff was in pots.  They used a bobcat to break up the dirt, and put in some nice top soil.  This has drip irrigation installed too.  Unfortunately when the bobcat was out here they knocked the cap off my sewer cleanout.  I pointed it out to them, and supposedly they cleaned it out.  Saturday morning I got up and used the toilet, and turned on the shower and the toilet started gurgling.  I went in the other bathroom and water was coming up in the bathtub, and that toilet had water oozing out along the bottom.   I had this happen before, and they were symptoms of a blockage.  

I called my home warranty company and set up an appointment.  After multiple calls to the contractor they assigned me to, and the home warranty company, I was told they had no one to come out till Monday afternoon.  My third toilet on the other side of the house was working okay.  I texted the landscaping contractor, and next thing I knew, he had taken the cap off and cleared out a small plug of mud.  Everything is working fine now, and it was so nice for him to come over and clear it out.  I cancelled the home warranty appointment and saved $100. 

I also had 2 trees put in the backyard.  One is a pomegranate tree.

I quilted one of the Community Service quilts for our guild, but didn't get a picture before I packaged it up for a member to put on the binding.  Some people in the guild just like to contribute by putting on binding.

The other thing I worked on was this Flora Supply Case.  There was a sew along a month or two ago with Clover and Violet on Instagram.  I didn't have a chance to do the sew along at the time.  I am making 2 of these, one is a gift.  All I need to is put the zipper and the binding on.   I just used scrap 2-1/2 inch blocks.  

What I will be working on on for Slow Sunday Stitching will be one of two things.  A number of months ago, on the free table I found a baggie of these redwork ornaments that were in various stages of completion.  I picked it up, and intend to finish these up to donate at the guild this month.  They are having a boutique, selling things for the holidays.

I will also be working on this stitchery by Jenny of Elefantz.  She is launching a new BOM design, a Daisy a Day.    I get her newsletter, and can't find where I found this.  She made a little cushion, but I am going to make a pincushion out of this stitchery.

Slow Sunday Stitching, Happy Halloween

It was a little crazy last week.  It started out normal with the Monday singing group.  We have started on Christmas song practice, and I thought these would be easy, no surprise songs.  Well I was wrong.  There is a song called "Twas the Night After Christmas" I have never heard before, and the other surprise was "Pablo The Raindeer".

I got the quilting done on both quilts for my daughters.  This was a pattern by Carol Swift @Just Let Me Quilt called "Who's Looking At You" and can be purchased here.

This week I also finished hand sewing the binding on my brother's king-sized quilt.  Too hard to get a picture here.  I plan to take it guild meeting on the 16th for show and tell, and they will take a picture there.  

Tuesday was spent getting ready for workday at my house with about 6 guild ladies on Wednesday.  I had a big mess to pick up with all the Halloween fabrics all over my work area.  Tuesday my tooth that I had a crown put on a couple of months ago started hurting again, so much so I couldn't chew at all.  

Wednesday the ladies came over for several hours and we cut batting and binding to match the the tops and backings and bagged them up for pin basting day.  While everyone was there, I developed a terrible migraine on top of the tooth pain.  That afternoon I was able to get a dental appointment and found out I had an abscess  and needed a root canal on that same tooth.  My office didn't have an endodontist available till 11/16 and so they asked if I would mind going to another office.   They gave me an antibiotic and some ibuprofen.  There was 1-1/2 hour wait at the pharmacy and I barely got my prescription before they closed down.

Thursday morning I was called and said another office downtown would be able to take care of my tooth.  Apparently the tooth I just had a crown put on, the nerve is dead, but the root canal was done.  I still have a bump in my mouth where the abscess is, but I am able to chew again, without much pain.

The rest of Thursday and Friday I didn't feel like doing much, and didn't, mostly rested.  

Saturday was granddaughter Klara's 9th BD.  They came over briefly in the afternoon to get her gifts.    Klara loves Stranger Things, and I cut out an SVG image from Stranger Things in vinyl with my Cricut, and ironed it on a sweatshirt.  

While I haven't been doing much this week, I have been reading up a storm, mainly this series by Carol Dean Jones, Cozy Quilt Series.  They are a quick read and I think I have read 4-5 this week.  I have Kindle Unlimited and they are free to me.  

My daughter has been encouraging me to watch this series on Netflix called The Haunting Of Hill House, I have the last couple of days in keeping watching a creepy series for Halloween.  It is creepy for sure.

Around my neighborhood, they have some very clever decorations, which we stopped and got some pictures of this afternoon.

This week for Slow Sunday Stitching I will be working on two projects.  The first is Granddaughter Kyleigh's poncho.  I had about 5 inches knit and I found out I had dropped a stitch somewhere.  I have ripped this thing out 3 times, I am finally starting over and am going to try it again.  It is supposed to be a Christmas gift but warned her it might be delayed.  

I'll also continue working on this gnome again.

Slow Sunday Stitching, Chasing Squirrels Last Week

 Another busy week has passed.  This week was Begonia Meeting and I was one of the members that was providing refreshments.  The other member was bringing fixings for nachos, so I tried to coordinate my refreshments to go with hers.  I made this Mexican Street Corn Pasta Salad, Pina Colada Fruit Salad.  I also made three cookie bars, Pecan Squares, Soft Pumpkin Cookies, and Raspberry Almond Linzer Shortbread.  I literally was cooking all day, but everything was a hit.

Wednesday was guild meeting, and afterwards I spent about 1-1/2 hours at my internet office trying to get a problem sorted out.  

My daughters have some friends that get together for dinner on people's birthdays.  I got invited because they were celebrating my daughter Katie's BD and Suzanne, both of whom have August birthdays, but various reasons got delayed celebrating.  It was a fun evening.  

Friday afternoon granddaughter Kyleigh and I went to lunch at a nursery that has a cafe that is always in popular demand.  Kyleigh obtained the last reservation of the week.  

I might have chased a couple of squirrels last week.  I had all my Halloween fabrics out from making my friend Jandra's Tired of Trickin Quilt.

Then this past week I participated in the Gremlins, Goblins and Ghouls, Oh My Blog Hop.  You can read about it here.  This was my project.  My Ghoulish Gnomes.

The first squirrel I chased that wasn't on my original plan for the week was to make my granddaughter Kyleigh a Halloween table runner.  She had been over the week before, and in mixed with my Halloween fabrics were some Halloween orphan blocks from a long, long ago swap I was in.   She liked them, and the Boo fabric.  So I decided to make her a table runner, and give it to her at the luncheon.  I finished it about an hour before I left.   The little ghost block was from a swapper in the Netherlands!

The next squirrel I chased was after reading a post by Carol Swift @Just Let Me Quilt.    She had designed this quilt, Who's Looking At You.  I thought my daughters would like it, so I cut two out.  They are all prepared for quilting.  Unfortunately I didn't read the directions before I cut and fused all my pieces, where it said everything had been reversed.  I reversed them myself, so my versions are opposite the pattern.  They were such big pieces, and I had used so much fusible and fabric, I left them as they were.  

I think I can put my Halloween fabrics away now.  Plus about 6-7 ladies from the guild are coming over next Wednesday for workday at my house, so I need to clean up my work areas anyway.  

What I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching is putting the binding on my brother's quilt and sewing it down by hand.  I wasn't able to work on it last week, I had a lot going on chasing those squirrels.

To top things off on Saturday night, I went to put some of my leftovers from this week in the microwave.  It wouldn't work.  I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in.  Nothing.  A little while later I tried warming up a cup of water.  All of a sudden it went on.  I put my dinner in, and it would not work.  I looked inside and apparently we bought it in 2014, I guess it was tired.  I ended up going to Home Depot and getting a new microwave.  What a pain!

Gremlins, Goblins, and Ghouls, Oh My Blog Hop, My day

Today is the second day of the Gremlins, Goblins and Ghouls Blog hop, hosted by the fabulous Joan @Moosestash Quilting.  I really appreciate participating in this blog hop, and I had fun creating my projects.  The full schedule is below.  

The first thing I made was this pattern  I bought on Etsy called "Tired of Trickin".  I thought it was really cute.

I made it for my friend Jandra.   She admired some of my Halloween quilts, so I made this one for her, and gave it to her last week.  This is my version, and the night I gave it to her.  

The second thing I made was a Spooky Time Gnomes Bench pillowcase as a kit.  The pattern was by The Whole Country Caboodle, designer Leanne Anderson. This was a laser cut kit and was pretty easy to do.

Hand Quilt Along, Slow Sunday Stitching

It's been a whirlwind week for me.  In addition to my regular singing practice, and quilt pin basting I have had a lot more outside activities.  

Most of the family attended granddaughter Klara's school performance of Starstruck.  Each of the grades, plus the teachers had a dance number with a different tune from a movie  Klara's third grade class performed "Life is a Highway" from the Cars movie.  

Wednesday was my birthday and and the quilters that were at basting day took me to lunch at Panera.   Then that evening my family took me to our favorite Mexican place.  Grandson Jaeger, the slightly taller one, on the right, flew in from a New Mexico for a short break from college.  

Thursday another friend took me to brunch.  Then Thursday night my 2 daughters planned a painting party for me, it included a couple of my daughters friends, granddaughter Kyleigh, Jandra who is her boyfriend Drew's grandmother, and Victoria Drew's mother.  It was such a fun evening.  We got to chose what project we wanted to work on.  When we arrived they had our wooden boards prepared, and the stencils cut out.   We weeded out the remaining parts on the stencils and then painted our boards.

Friday Kyleigh, Jandra and Victoria and I went to lunch too for my birthday.  Needless to say, I have had a lot of leftovers in my frig, and never felt so loved.  

Saturday night was grandson Keaton's high school prom at his school.   Keaton and Addie make such a cute couple.  They are juniors in high school.  

This week I also received my choices for the $50 gift card I got One Of The Flock, who have a great Etsy shop with wools, felts and all sorts of great kits.  I won this on the Autumn Jubilee going on at From My Carolina Home.    I really appreciate their generosity in this prize.  

For slow stitching this week, I will be working on my woolie gnome project, and putting binding and hand sewing it down on my brother Bill's quilt.  This is going to take awhile I think.
