Welcome to the second day, and my day of the Salt and Sea Blog Hop! When Carol @Just Let Me Quilt first suggested this hop, I knew I had to join in. The beach and ocean are my special place, I dream of visiting them again. Many thanks to Carol for once again coming up with a wonderful hop. The full list of participants is below, be sure and visit and see what everyone has come up with!
I had a brilliant plan to begin with that didn't come to fruition yet. I had planned to make a collage mermaid, something I have never done before, but unfortunately I just received my materials last week. I had a graphic artist, the husband of my hearing aid technician, draw me a beautiful mermaid some years ago, and I plan to make a collage of it, this is not something you attempt a week before the hop. So on to Plan B.
I used some of my Christmas money to purchase some new dies for my Accuquilt cutter, and had not had a chance to use yet. I had gotten a tumbler die, and I also purchased some nautical dies. I used some of my 30's fabrics that have little children on the seashore, and also used some of my nautical fabric.
I put nautical borders on. On the bottom it says "Ahoy, my friend, come sail with me.. Let's Make believe we're at sea"
This is the whole top. I haven't had a chance to quilt it yet. This top will end up being one of my contributions to the Hands 2 Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2021 organized by Sarah @Confessions of a Fabric Addict.
My daughter came over on when I was working on this top and told me my granddaughter would love one like this for her baby doll Beatrice. I had some leftover tumblers cut out, so I will sew Beatrice a quilt for Easter!
Be sure and visit the others participating in this hop, and thanks again Carol for another wonderful hop!

Beautiful work! I have always loved the tumbler block look. It makes me think about getting one now! I love how it creates interest but also lets you use showcase amazing fabrics. I like fabric that has a lot of details and when it gets cut up for a quilt sometimes that fun disappears. The tumbler lets the fabric shine. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness your tumbler quilt is adorable. I love all the little appliques you added and there are some of the cutest vintage looking fabrics in it. Love love love it. That is quite the beautiful quiltie on your header too. Perfect for the hop.
ReplyDeleteI love tumbler quilts and you made it even more special with that cute border. Awesome choice of fabrics for it! Thank you for sharing this sweet quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour tumbler quilt is adorable, Karrin! It looks like the tumbler die for the Accuquilt is really handy. I like the little appliqued pieces, too. Hope you get to work on your collage mermaid soon!

ReplyDeleteYour Tumbler quilt is going to be darling and so is Beatrice's little Bonus Quilt!! Whose Mermaid quilt is at the top of the page? That is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI know the collage will be beautiful when you get time, but the one you did with the dies is as cute as anything! I like the mermaid at the top, too.
ReplyDeleteThat was such a clever idea and I love it. It never would have crossed my mind to applique inside the tumbler blocks.
ReplyDeleteadorable with those crabs and things
ReplyDeleteThat mermaid is just a wonderful opening to your post for Salt And Sand. I love tumbler blocks and your quilt is just a great use of them. Doll quitl it gonna be loved.
ReplyDeleteKarrin, your seaside tumbler quilt is so creatively put together with the images in some tumbler pieces and the die cut images in random spots. I love that cute border on the bottom. Your Granddaughter and Beatrice are going to be so happily surprised.
ReplyDeleteYour title page photo quilt is outstanding! It was worth the visits many times over. Enjoyed seeing the quilt you made for the hop, too. Love that border with the sailboats and the 'make believe' writing - super!
ReplyDeleteYour mermaid idea is a good one and I hope you get a chance to work on it soon. A friend of mine made a mermaid quilt years ago that was wonderful and should have won first place at the quilt show but now I can't remember what technique she used.
ReplyDeleteYou should come visit me as I live about 10 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean!
I love the mermaid idea. The tumblers are nice too
