Slow Sunday Stitching

Time to report in again for Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's Quilts  I have worked on a couple of slow stitching projects this week.  

I finished my Cheri Payne stitchery called God Bless America.    I plan to make it into a pillow, but haven't gotten to that yet. 

I also finished up this month's assignment of the Buhl-Bushong Quilt, from the Virginia Quilt Museum's collection of quilts.  It is being offered as a BOM download from the Museum's Facebook Page.   

I've decided to take the wing off my bird and use a fabric that shows more contrast.  

Next up, I will be working on one of the stitcheries patterns I have received from Kathy Schmitz' One Stitch At a Time Club.

2019 Finish-A-Long, Quarter 3 Goals

It's time to set goals for the 2019 Finish-A-Long for Quarter 3.   If you would like to join in the fun, there are multiple global hosts.  You can find the list here at Throw a Wrench in the Works, or link up there.

My Quarter 3 goals are as follows. I am still heavy on hand work I think, but I tried to add a bit more machine work goals.

1).   My first, and most immediate goal is to finish making my project and post for the 12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop hosted by Sarah @ Confessions of a Fabric Addict, which starts this Sunday.  I started my project, and ran into difficulties.  I need to start again.  But I will have it ready for my day, which is July 24th.    I will have the line-up in the next day or so.  

2.  Blessings Quilt to Flimsy.  This is about 1/2 done right now, maybe less than half-done.  It involves embroidery and machine work.  

3)  Nutcracker Suite BOM  to flimsy.  I'm ready to get this together.  I have the last month's BOM stitching to do and this month's which which should arrive shortly.  This is just machine piecing.  I have all the nutcracker machine applique done.  

4)  Hospital Sketches Civil War BOM by Barbara Brackman @ Civil War Quilts.

My goal is to have July, August and September blocks done.  These are hand-applique and this was June's block.

5)  Sweet Land of Liberty.  July, August and September BOM done.  This is being hosted again this year by Lori of Humble Quilts.  She did it last year on her blog.  This year it is being held on the Quilts by Cheri Friendship group on Facebook group. This is part of what I have done so far.  

6)  Quilt the Great Pumpkin Quilt.   I have no clue how I am going to quilt this machine-appliqued quilt. I welcome suggestions. I don't generally quilt over fusibles, but these pumpkins are huge. 

7)  Quilt the frog quilt for my neighbor who is due to have her baby shortly

8)  Buhl-Bushong Quilt July, August, September.  I started this BOM through the Facebook Group which is from the Virginia Quilt Museum's collection of quilts.  This is from their picture.  I am about 1/2 through my first month's assignment.  

9)   Complete O My Stars penny mat.  I'm probably 1/3 of the way through stitching these wool pieces together.  The ones on the right I am finished with.  The left side still needs to be done.

10)   Make my project for My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop, hosted by Carla at Creatin in the Sticks.   This will take place September 9-13th.  I haven't started yet, but have an idea.  

11)  Hand-applique 3 more Father Christmas blocks

My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop

Hand Quilt Along, Slow Sunday Stitching,

Another 3 weeks has flown by, and time to report in for the Hand Quilt Along.  I have been doing several projects by hand.  

I was able to get another one of my Father Christmas' done.  I hope to get some more prepped in the next couple of weeks.

I was able to finish Sweet Annie, a long forgotten project.  I had started her in class around 1997 and she got put in a container, along with the pink and brown quilt which I finished during the All About Strings Blog Hop here.  I kept thinking about Sweet Annie and I knew I just had to finish her.  

I had the background done, her dress stitched on, I had stitched Annie and her birdhouse and bucket, in really, really primitive backstitch.    I decided to take that out, and restitched her.  The things that always enticed me about this project were the stenciled border and the crazy patch stitching.  I am a crazy quilter also, though I haven't done much in the past few  years.  But I plan to get back to it soon. It was nice practicing my stitches again, but hard to deliberately look primitive.   Anyway after I located my stencil, I was able to do the border.  I just spritzed tea dye over the stencil and it worked pretty good.  I had an overspray when I moved the stencil for the longer border but just decided to leave it.  This was out of an old Kindred Spirits Book called Handgifts.  

I have also been working on a stitchery by Cheri Payne called God Bless America.  I was working on this on the 4th of July.  

I just finished the latest installment of Sweet Land of Liberty by Cheri Payne, a QAL I am working on, coordinated by Lori of Humble Quilts through the Quilts by Cheri Friendship Group on Facebook.  I needed to finish this up, as I have a blog hop coming up I haven't started my project yet.  

When I don't have any applique prepped, I have been working on another UFO called O My Stars, a penny mat.  

The pile on the left is what needs to be done, the one on the right I have already stitched.

12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop, Buhl-Bushong Quilt

Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict is hosting the 12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop again this year.  It starts on July 14th and goes through July 25th.  My day to participate is the 24th.  Am still planning what I am going to do.  I need to get going on this though.

I'm starting a new quilt, called the Buhl-Bushong Quilt, which is from the Virginia Quilt Museum's collection of quilts.  It is being offered as a BOM download from the museum's Facebook Page.  I have borrowed a picture from the museum's Facebook page.  

I was going to purchase the patterns, and work on it later.  But then I saw Karen @Log Cabin Quilter's post and decided to get started now.  Such a weak person, but I love this quilt, and it will be nice to work along with someone.  

I better get to prepping the first month's pieces.

Then I need to figure out what I am doing for the blog hop.  I have an idea, but have figure out how I am doing it!

Sew Lets QAL

What I have been working on today is this week's block for the Sew Let's Quilt Along, the mystery quilt along by Partners in Design.  This week's block was designed by Kathleen McCormick @Kathleen McMusing.

This was the end of Section 2, and we are supposed to post our blocks from this section to be in the drawing for the prizes for this section.  

This was from Section 1.  I think we have 1 more section to go.  I'm curious about what comes next!

2019 Finish-A-Long, Quarter 2 Results

It is time to report the results of the 2019 Finish A-Long for Quarter 2.

I originally stated my goals for quarter 2 here.

1)  6 Quilts for the Hands2Help hosted by Sarah @Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  I actually finished 7 quilts for the project and sent them off.  I blogged about them here

2)  3 Nutcracker Blocks.     I actually finished 5 Nutcracker blocks.  I blogged about it here

3.  Flourishes Block #12, and assemble top.   I achieved this goal and blogged about it here.  

4.   Finish last 3 Redwork Nursery Rhyme blocks.  Goal Achieved and I blogged about it here.

5.  Sweet Land of Liberty BOM for April, May and June. Goal achieved and blogged about here, here, and here.

6.  . Complete 2 Father Christmas Blocks  Goal completed, I actually did 3, I blogged about it here

7.  .  All Things Bright and Beautiful to flimsy stage  This was actually the only goal I did not achieve.  I found I had lost part of the instructions and had to repurchase them.  This quilt came in 4 different books. each book had a different blessing in it and stitchery.  I had done the first section years ago.  I lost the second section.  I did do the third section this quarter, the blue and green blocks on the right.  This quilt is actually called the Blessings Quilt. I blogged about it here.  

8.  Hospital Sketches BOM, the Civil War Quilt BOM by Barbara Brackman.  Goal was to finish April, May and June blocks.  They were blogged about here, and here.  I guess I forgot to blog about the pineapple one.  

9.  Get Sweet Annie to flimsy.   This goal was totally completed.   This was an old, old UFO from 1997 that I came across when reorganizing things at the beginning of the year.  I always loved this, primitive crazy quilt type wall hanging.  All that I had done was some really primitive stitching on the Annie block and the background was pieced already.  I am so happy I was able to find my stencil to do the stenciling on the border.  I just sprayed tea-dye on the stencil and it worked OK with a few minor oversprays.  Using the stencil paint acrylic type paint was not working too good.

So I got all of my list done, except 1.  So that is 90% finish rate.  The Father Christmases and Sweet Annie date back to 1997 at least.  The redwork blocks date back probably to 2000 or so.
